Structure and surface states A series of Mn-substituted cobalt oxides (MnCoOx-z with varied Mn/Co ratios (z) of 02.0) were successfully prepared by chemical reduction method. The obtained MnCoOx catalysts present as hierarchical nanospheres with an average diameter of 250-500nm, which is mainly composed by ultrathin nanosheets with the surface covered by thin layers (Fig.1a, b; Supplementary Fig.1). A schematic illustration is presented to show the formed grain boundary layers as a function of Mn/Co ratio (Fig.1c).
