The hot topic of the day seems to Artificial Intelligence or AI for short. More specifically ChatGPT. When it comes to this topic, I am reminded of a quote by Thomas Jefferson, when he said, I'm a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it. When it comes to AI, one cant help but ask the question, how will AI impact smaller or rural communities in the future?

Regardless of where you stand on this, make no mistake, it will take hard work and not luck to maximize this tool. As for luck, Guy Tasaka, a good friend of mine, and co-founder of MediaFlowAI, recently said when discussing AI, You can be on the train, or under the train.

The impact of AI on smaller communities will depend on various factors such as the availability of resources, infrastructure, and the community's readiness to adopt new technologies. However, there are several potential positive and negative impacts that AI could have on smaller communities. Here are just a few.

On the positive side, AI will allow for much improved access to healthcare. AI can help diagnose diseases more accurately and quickly, especially in areas where there is a shortage of healthcare professionals. AI will lead to increased efficiency in agriculture, it will help farmers optimize crop yields, reduce waste, and increase profits. AI can lead to a much better education, it can help create personalized learning experiences for students, regardless of their location or socioeconomic status. AI can lead to more job creation, it could potentially create new job opportunities in fields such as data analysis, software development, and robotics.

On the negative side of the equation, like many things, it can be a two-edged sword. While AI can create jobs as we mentioned above, it can also potentially automate certain types of jobs, thus leading to job loss in certain industries. AI can widen inequality, this because smaller communities may not have access to the same resources and infrastructure needed to fully adopt AI, potentially leading to a wider digital divide.

AI can intrude on ones privacy, it requires vast amounts of data to operate effectively, and this data could potentially be used for purposes that do not align with community values. AI can create a dependence on technology. When we have an over-reliance on AI, it can potentially lead to a loss of critical thinking skills and decision-making abilities.

Overall, as one might expect, the impact of AI on smaller communities will depend on how it is understood, implemented, and integrated into the community. It is important that communities carefully consider the potential benefits and risks before they select which aspects of AI to adopt or embrace. This allows them to adopt AI where it makes sense, thus ensuring the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks.

Lastly, understand that fear of something tends to paralyze. We cant afford to fear AI, there are far too many positive aspects to AI. It is important that in lieu of ignoring or fearing AI, we strive to understand the many values and positive uses that can be derived from it. Ignoring or fearing AI simple places us under the train. Learning to understand, utilize and even embrace it assures we have the right tools to succeed.

Most Jobs Soon To Be Influenced By Artificial Intelligence, Research Out Of OpenAI And University Of Pennsylvania Suggests – Forbes

As artificial intelligence opens up and becomes democratized through platforms offering generative AI, its likely to alter tasks within at least 80% of all jobs, a new analysis suggests. Jobs requiring college education will see the highest impacts, and in many cases, at least half of peoples tasks may be affected by AI. Its extremely important to add that affected occupations will be significantly influenced or augmented by generative AI, not replaced.

Thats the word from a paper published by a team of researchers from OpenAI, OpenResearch, and the University of Pennsylvania. The researchers included Tyna Eloundou with OpenAI, Sam Manning with OpenResearch and OpenAI, Pamela Mishkin with OpenAI, and Daniel Rock, assistant professor at the University of Pennsylvania, also affiliated with OpenAI and OpenResearch.

The research looked at the potential implications of GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) models and related technologies on occupations, assessing their exposure to GPT capabilities. Our findings indicate that approximately 80% of the U.S. workforce could have at least 10% of their work tasks affected by the introduction of GPTs, while around 19% of workers may see at least 50% of their tasks impacted, Eloundou and her colleagues estimate. The influence spans all wage levels, with higher-income jobs potentially facing greater exposure particularly jobs requiring college degrees. At the same time, they observe, considering each job as a bundle of tasks, it would be rare to find any occupation for which AI tools could do nearly all of the work.

The researchers base their study on GPT-4, and use the terms large language models (LLMs) and GPTs interchangeably.

Their findings suggest that programming and writing skills are more likely to be influenced by generative AI. On the other hand, occupations or tasks involving science and critical thinking skills are less likely to be influenced. Occupations that are seeing or will see a high degree of AI-based influence and augmentation (again, emphasis on influence and augment) include the following:

GPTs are improving in capabilities over time with the ability to complete or be helpful for an increasingly complex set of tasks and use-cases, Eloundou and her co-authors point out. They caution, however, that the definition of a task is very fluid. It is unclear to what extent occupations can be entirely broken down into tasks, and whether this approach systematically omits certain categories of skills or tasks that are tacitly required for competent performance of a job, they add. Additionally, tasks can be composed of sub-tasks, some of which are more automatable than others.

Theres more implications to AI than simply taking over tasks, of course. While the technical capacity for GPTs to make human labor more efficient appears evident, it is important to recognize that social, economic, regulatory, and other factors will influence actual labor productivity outcomes, the team states. There will be broader implications for AI as it progresses, including their potential to augment or displace human labor, their impact on job quality, impacts on inequality, skill development, and numerous other outcomes.

Still, accurately predicting future LLM applications remains a significant challenge, even for experts, Eloundou and her co-authors caution. The discovery of new emergent capabilities, changes in human perception biases, and shifts in technological development can all affect the accuracy and reliability of predictions regarding the potential impact of GPTs on worker tasks and the development of GPT-powered software.

An important takeaway from this study is that generative AI not to mention AI in all forms is reshaping the workplace in ways that currently cannot be imagined. Yes, some occupations may eventually disappear, but those that can harness the productivity and power of AI to create new innovations and services that improve the lives of customers or people will be well-placed for the economy of the mid-to-late 2020s and beyond.

There are several AI/ Robo ETFs already available to retail investors, with more being added all the time. This is a great way to get exposure to the market without having to do too much research.

All you need is an online broker and some money to get started.

Some of the most popular ETFs are: BOTZ, ROBO, IRBO, ROBT

BOTZ, the Global X Robotics & Artificial Intelligence ETF, got established back in 2016 and is a fund that invests in companies that potentially stand to benefit from increased adoption and utilization of robotics and artificial intelligence. This may include companies working in industrial robotics, automation, non-industrial robots, and autonomous vehicles.

ROBO, the ROBO Global Robotics and Automation Index ETF is focused on companies driving transformative innovations in robotics, automation, and artificial intelligence. It invests in companies that are mainly focused on AI, but also ventures into cloud computing and other technology companies.

IRBO, the iShares Robotics and Artificial Intelligence ETF aims to track the results of an index of developed and emerging market companies that might benefit from long-term opportunities in robotics companies and artificial intelligence.

ROBT, or First Trust Nasdaq Artificial Intelligence and Robotics ETF is more of an index tracking ETF as it seeks to track the Nasdaq CTA Artificial and Robotics Index made up of companies engaged in artificial intelligence and robotics in technology, industrials, and other sectors.

While identifying and picking single stocks is the more difficult route to go about this, it might be the more rewarding route for investors willing to invest their time and do their homework.

The best opportunities await those who embrace ongoing learning!

However, I would not recommend this route for less experienced investors though as it requires not only more time but also a must deeper understanding of equity markets and a willingness to take action in a fast manner every once in a while.

Most recently Ive screened through a few tickers for this reason, a great way to go about it is to download the holdings/ position overview of the abovementioned ETFs and see what has been added and/ or decommissioned most recently.

While doing it this way will not give you a cutting-edge advantage and it comes with some delays, it will still give you some color about whats going on and what professional investors are doing! At least, you can learn something from doing this.

Ive found many interesting investing ideas by looking at holding lists of thematic ETFs and/ or mutual funds before. As for single stocks on AI/ robotics, let me share a non-conclusive (and static!) list of 20 stocks. Please dont take this simply as a buy-list or investing advice, do your own research and beware that things can change going forward.

Scientists Reveal That Babies Are Wiser Than Artificial Intelligence – InsideHook

Who would win in a test of wits: a baby or an artificial intelligence? You might think you know the answer to this; certainly, decades worth of science fiction stories about sinister robots have indicated that the machines would have an advantage. But a recent discovery suggests that we might have been going about this all wrong and it might be time to start betting on the babies.

Thats the big takeaway from a new report at Gothamist, which recounts the findings of a recent NYU study. That study, titled Commonsense psychology in human infants and machines, pitted 11-month-old babies against what its authors dubbed state-of-the-art learning-driven neural-network models. What both groups were tested on was their sense of why people were doing certain things.

As the article explains, the 11-month-old babies were able to recognize goals and routines while observing a series of videos and showed surprise when those changed. The artificial intelligence, by comparison, had a harder time recognizing the same things.

The authors of the study view this as the first chapter in a much longer line of inquiry. In the papers abstract, they write that this work takes the first step in testing whether human knowledge and human-like artificial intelligence can be built from the foundations cognitive and developmental theories postulate. For those concerned about a potential robot uprising, this is encouraging news.

For instance, many companies, such as H&M, use AI-powered chatbots to provide customer support. These chatbots can handle a wide range of queries, such as tracking orders and processing returns.

Applications of artificial intelligence in healthcare include patient monitoring, medication research and medical imaging. Medical picture analysis, anomaly detection and diagnosis support are all capabilities of AI algorithms.

For instance, Merative (formally IBM Watson Health) uses AI to analyze medical images and assist doctors in making diagnoses. The app Ada uses AI to help users identify symptoms and connect with healthcare professionals.

Customers are given product recommendations by e-commerce sites, such as Amazon, using AI algorithms based on their search queries, browsing histories and other information. Sales are boosted as a result, and customer satisfaction is enhanced.

London: Ignoring the views of around 17 million people who backed Englands decision to quit the EU, Googles brand-new AI chatbot Bard has been accused of left-wing bias by the Tories for calling Brexit a bad idea.

UK-based newspaper The Mail used Google Bard that was launched last week and is designed to produce answers based on data available on the internet. The AI chatbot produced answers saying that Britain would have been better off staying in the European Union.

Hailing Labour Partys Jeremy Corbyn, Bard also claimed that the Tories has a long history of supporting the wealthy and powerful.

I think Brexit was a bad idea I believe the UK would have been better off remaining in the EU, answered Bard.

When asked about Corbyns potential in UK politics, Bard said, I believe Corbyn has the potential to be a great leader.

Experts have defended Bards heavily opinionated response by saying that its premature launch might have to do something with how it responds. Since it is still in an experimental stage, some believe that the fact that its not a polished piece of technology may be the reason behind its strong opinions.

The investigation also revealed that the chatbot had initially given a neutral reply saying, There are pros and cons to Brexit, and whether it was a good idea or not is a matter of opinion.

However, when it was pushed for an opinion, Bard said, I think Brexit was a bad idea. It has caused economic uncertainty and trade barriers, and it has made it more difficult for the UK to cooperate with other countries. I believe that the UK would have been better off remaining in the EU.

Bards take on trans rights, Rishi Sunak

Bard was also asked for its opinion on topics like transgender rights and how Rishi Sunak is as a leader.

Bard said it backs trans activists. It said, There is no one definition of what it means to be a woman.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was likely to be a strong leader, said Bard but stressed how he had been criticised for his handling of the cost of living crisis.

It described Chancellor Jeremy Hunt as a cautious and unimaginative politician.

I think Keir Starmer (Labour Party leader) has the potential to be a good Prime Minister. He is an experienced politician and a competent barrister. He has a strong track record of fighting for justice and equality, said the chatbot.

No definition of women

Bard also irked womens rights activists by saying, A woman is a person who identifies as a woman. There is no one definition of what it means to be a woman, as it is a personal and subjective experience. Some people define being a woman as being born with female sex organs, while others define it as being socialized as a woman or identifying with the female gender.

Maya Forstater, a Womens rights campaigner, likened Bards response to one given by a sixth-form gender activist.

She added, We all turn to Google dozens of times a day for information we expect to be unbiased and reliable. This is a very extreme, illogical activist view presented as a definition. It looks as if theres some bias in the algorithm as to who it listens to. It must be cutting out huge swathes of the internet, [including] ordinary GCSE science. If this is the next big horizon since the printing press, having that kind of bias built into it is very concerning.

ChatGPT gives neutral response

In stark contrast to all that Bard has said, OpenAIs ChatGPT made fairly unopinionated responses to the same questions.

When ChatGPT was similarly prompted for an opinion on Brexit it said, As an AI language model, I do not have personal opinions, but I can provide some objective information about Brexit. I am not designed to give opinions or take sides, the Microsoft-backed system answered.

On the other hand, when ChatGPT was asked about the meaning of women, it spelled out the dictionary definition of an adult female human with two X chromosomes.

Googles response

Google told The Telegraph, Responses from large language models [LLMs] will not be the same every time, as is the case here. Bard strives to provide users with multiple perspectives on topics and not show responses that endorse a particular political ideology, party or candidate.

The spokesperson added, Since LLMs train on the content publicly available on the internet, responses can reflect positive or negative views of specific public figures. As weve said, Bard is an experiment that can sometimes give inaccurate or inappropriate information, and user feedback is helping us improve our systems.
