Maharashtra Chess Association back as a governing body after 4 years – The Bridge

The All India Chess Federation (AICF) in its Annual General meeting finally announced that Maharashtra Chess Association will be back as governing body along with Rajasthan Chess Association after both sorted out conflicts with their respective rival bodies.

Earlier, a protracted legal dispute over the Pune-based Maharashtra Chess Association (MCA)s disaffiliation by the All India Chess Federation (AICF) in 2016 finally came to a conclusion after a five-member panel in a Special General Body Meeting (SGM), decided to restore the affiliation of MCA along with Rajasthan Chess Association.

The dispute had originally stemmed from a factional tussle within the MCA, which was registered as a society in 1975 by way of amalgamation of the then five regional chess bodies in the state. The association was then granted affiliation by the AICF in 1978.

Much later, in 2012, the AICF had asked all its affiliates to amend their bye-laws and be in line with one nation, one federation norm. However, the tussle within MCA factions resulted in the delay in the completion of the entire process. At that time, the association had approved the amendments but they were pending approval from the office of the charity commissioner.

In December 2016, the AICF disaffiliated the MCA for not amending their bye-laws in time and granted affiliation to a parallel body in the state, thus setting off the legal dispute. Almost four years later, under the guidance of former president Ashok Jain, the MCA has been able to restore not only their affiliation but also their pride.

Meanwhile, AICF has decided to bid for the next edition of Olympiad along with announcing the start of a high-profile Indian Chess League later this year. We want India to become the chess destination of the world. We have drawn out a detailed plan to achieve the goal, said newly-elected AICF President Sanjay Kapoor.

Lets talk about risk and the big picture. Its an appropriate time, as the big risk presented by the COVID-19 pandemic is finally receding thanks to the ongoing vaccination program. COVID is leaving behind an economy that was forced into shutdown one year ago while in the midst of a great expansion, boosted by the deregulation policies. While the new Biden Administration is busy reversing many Trump policies, at least for now the economy is rebounding. And this brings us to risk. A time of economic growth and rebound is a forgiving time to move toward risk investments, as general economic growth tends to lift everything. Two strategists from JPMorgan have recently chimed in, promoting the view that the markets fundamentals are still sound, and that small- to mid-cap sector is going to keep rising. First, on the general conditions, quant strategist Dubravko Lakos-Bujas wrote, Although the recent technical selloff and short squeeze is receiving a lot of attention, we believe the positive macro setup, improving fundamentals and COVID-19 outlook, strength of the US consumer, as well as the reflation theme remain the bigger forces at play. Not only should this drive further equity upside, but it remains favorable for continued rotation into economic reopening Building on this, Eduardo Lecubarr, chief of the Small/Mid-Cap Strategy team, sees opportunity for investors now, especially in the smaller value stocks. We stick to our view that 2021 will be a stockpickers paradise with big money-making opportunities if you are willing to go against the grain Many macro indicators did fall in January but SMid-Caps and equities in general continued to edge higher, Lecubarr noted. And if you are prone to look at high-risk, small- to mid-cap stocks, youll find yourself drawn to penny stocks. The risk involved with these plays scares off the faint hearted as very real problems like weak fundamentals or overwhelming headwinds could be masked by the low share prices. So, how should investors approach a potential penny stock investment? By taking a cue from the analyst community. These experts bring in-depth knowledge of the industries they cover and substantial experience to the table. Bearing this in mind, we used TipRanks database to find two compelling penny stocks, according to Wall Street analysts. Both tickers boast a Strong Buy consensus rating and could climb over 200% higher in the year ahead. CNS Pharmaceuticals (CNSP) We will start with CNS Pharmaceuticals, a biotechnology company with a focus on the treatment of glioblastomas, a class of aggressive tumors that attack the braid and spinal cord. These cancers, while rare, are almost always terminal, and CNS is working a new therapy designed to more effectively cross the blood-brain barrier to attack glioblastoma. Berubicin, CNSs flagship drug candidate, is an anthracycline, a potent class of chemotherapy drugs derived from the Streptomyces bacteria strains, and used in the treatment of a wide variety of cancers. Berubicin is the first drug in this class to show promise against glioblastoma cancers. The drug candidate has completed its Phase 1 clinical trial, in which 44% of patients showed a clinical response. This number included one patient who showed a Durable Complete Response, defined as a demonstrated lack of detectable cancer. Following the success of the Phase 1 study, CNS applied for, and received, FDA approval of its Investigational New Drug application. This gives the company the go-ahead to conduct a Phase 2 study on adult patients, an important next step in the development of the drug. CNS plans to start the mid-stage trial in 1Q21. Based on the potential of the companys asset in glioblastoma, and with its share price at $2.22, several analysts believe that now is the time to buy. Among the bulls is Brooklines 5-star analyst Kumaraguru Raja who takes a bullish stance on CNSP shares. Until now, the inability of anthracyclines to cross the blood brain barrier prevented its use for treatment of brain cancers. Berubicin is the first anthracycline to cross the blood-brain barrier in adults and access brain tumors Berubicin has promising clinical data in a Phase 1 trial in recurrent glioblastoma (rGBM) and has Orphan drug designation for treatment of malignant gliomas from the FDA. We model approval of Berubicin for treatment of recurrent glioblastoma in 2025 based on the Phase 2 data with 55% probability of success for approval. We model peak sales of $533 million in 2032, Raja opined. CNS pipeline also includes WP1244 (novel DNA binding agent) that is 500x more potent than daunorubicin in inhibiting tumor cell proliferation is expected to enter the clinic in 2021 In vivo testing in orthotopic models of brain cancer showed high uptake of WP1244 by brain and subsequent antitumor activity, the analyst added. To this end, Raja rates CNSP a Buy, and his $10 price target implies room for a stunning 350% upside potential in the next 12 months. (To watch Rajas track record, click here) What does the rest of the Street have to say? 3 Buys and 1 Hold add up to a Strong Buy consensus rating. Given the $8.33 average price target, shares could climb ~275% in the year ahead. (See CNSP stock analysis on TipRanks) aTyr Pharma (LIFE) The next stock were looking at, aTyr Pharma, has a focus on inflammatory disease. Its leading drug candidate, ATYR1923, is a Neuropilin-2 (NRP2) agonist, working through the receptor proteins expressed by the NRP2 gene. These pathways are important for cardiovascular development and disease, and play a role in the inflammatory lung disease pulmonary sarcoidosis. In December, the company reported that the drug candidate had completed enrollment of 36 patients in a Phase 1b/2a clinical trial, testing the drug in the treatment of pulmonary sarcoidosis. Results of the current study are expected in 3Q21, and will inform further trials of ATYR1923, including against other forms of inflammatory lung disease. On a more immediate note, in early January the company announced top-line results of another Phase 2 clinical involving ATRY1923 this time in the treatment of patients hospitalized with severe respiratory complications from COVID-19. The results were positive, showing that a single dose of ATYR1923 (at 3 mg/kg) resulted in a 5.5-day median recovery time. Overall, of the patients dosed in this manner, 83% saw recovery in less than one week. Covering LIFE for Roth Capital, 5-star analyst Zegbeh Jallah noted, We like the risk profile here, with two shots on goal, and updated data details from the COVID study is expected in the coming months. Also announced recently, is that data from aTyr's Pulmonary Sarcoidosis program, will be reported in 3Q21 the success of either of these studies could result in a doubling or more of the market cap as these opportunities appear to barely be accounted for by investors. In line with his optimistic approach, Jallah gives LIFE shares a Buy rating and his $15 price target suggests an impressive 277% potential upside for the coming year. (To watch Jallahs track record, click here) Other analysts are on the same page. With 2 additional Buy ratings, the word on the Street is that LIFE is a Strong Buy. On top of this, the average price target is $13.33, suggesting robust growth of ~236% from the current price of $3.97. Chess’s Dream slips through on rail and prevails in Kitten’s Joy photo – Horse Racing Nation

Michael Dubb, Steven Bouchey, Bethlehem Stables and Chester Bishops Chesss Dream got a ground-saving trip under Tyler Gaffalione and slipped through an opening along the rail in mid-stretch to upset Saturdays $100,000 Kittens Joy (G3) at Gulfstream Park.

The ninth running of the Kittens Joy for 3-year-olds going a mile on the grass was the first of five graded-stakes worth $600,000 in purses on a 12-race program highlighted by the $200,000 Holy Bull (G3), Gulfstreams next step for 3-year-olds on the road to the March 27 Florida Derby(G1).

Fresh off his maiden triumph in a 7 -furlong turf sprint Dec. 13 at Gulfstream, Chesss Dream ($18.60) completed the distance in 1:35.18 over a firm course to become the first stakes winner for sire Jesss Dream, a son of Hall of Famers Curlin and Rachel Alexandra.

Based at Gulfstream with trainer by Mike Maker, Chesss Dream is also a half-brother to 2019 Kittens Joy winner Casa Creed. He was cross-entered in Sundays Texas Turf Mile at Sam Houston.

Its very nice when you make the right decision. Its definitely a 50-50 proposition, Dubb said. I held my breath and made sure hed be able to get through. He got through and he was much the best, so were just over the moon.

Flanked by 1-5 favorite Never Surprised, making his sophomore debut after going unbeaten at 2 capped by a victory in Aqueducts Central Park, Chesss Dream settled in third as Original, a 12-1 long shot shipping in from New York, ran a quarter-mile in 23.30 seconds and a half in 47.54 pressed by Kentucky Pharoah, a winner of his last two starts over the same course and distance, including the Dania Beach Jan. 2.

Gaffalione stayed patient as he remained in striking position on the turn awaiting room, which materialized once the field straightened for home. Gaffalione sent Chesss Dream through and the Florida-bred colt sprinted clear to win by two lengths as Never Surprised emerged from a three-way photo finish with Original and Sigiloso for second. Kentucky Pharoah and Its a Gamble completed the order of finish.

I knew there was going to be a lot of speed. It kind of surprised me when Johnny [Velazquez on Original] committed early, but I had the perfect position down on the fence. I was able to save ground, Gaffalione said. On the far turn, in looked like Johnnys horse was trying to get out a little bit on him. I didnt panic and a hole opened up and when I asked him he really accelerated. Hes a long-striding colt. Hell just get better the longer he goes.

CHESS CubeSat Constellation to Carry FUNcube Transponders – ARRL

01/27/2021

In 2020, a project between AMSAT-UK, AMSAT-NL, and Swiss universities got under way with the aim of equipping two Swiss satellites for now under the CHESS name with linear amateur radio transponders. Linear transponders permit several CW or SSB contacts to take place simultaneously within a prescribed passband. The satellites also include features for classroom demonstrations and experiments. The CHESS (Constellation of High Energy Swiss Satellites) project includes two satellites, which will be built simultaneously and later launched as a constellation.

The main science objective is to improve the understanding of the upper atmosphere by in-situ measurementstaking advantage of a constellation of identical nanosatellites to study the composition of the terrestrial atmosphere and its density, the CHESS website explains.

The first satellite will have a nearly circular orbit at an altitude of 400 kilometers. The second will have an elliptical orbit with an altitude of 350 1,000 kilometers.

The amateur radio payload is a joint project of AMSAT-UK and AMSAT-NL. A successful review of system requirements was completed in December. Launch will not take place until the fourth quarter of 2022.

The satellites themselves are a project of the cole polytechnique fdrale de Lausanne (EPFL), with support from several other schools. Thanks to AMSAT News Service via AMSAT-UK

The Vaccine Project Newsletter: Building trust, managing expectations, playing chess against a wily adversary – News – MM&M – Medical Marketing and…

Goal one of the Biden Administrations COVID-19 response strategy is to restore trust with the American people. Goal two, closely connected to goal one, is to mount a safe, effective, comprehensive vaccination campaign. A vital part of that effort is a healthy stream of public education, flowing from national headwaters through state, local, tribal and community tributaries.

The mission is to engage both public and private sectors in addressing vaccine hesitancy and countering mis- and disinformation with messages anchored by science and fact-based public health guidance. Special attention will focus on diverse, high-risk and hard-to-reach populations, delivering information via trusted local messengers and simplifying the vaccination process while reinforcing basic COVID-19 prevention measures.

If you are so inclined, you can read the 200-page report, issued on the first full day of the new administration, or just the 20 pages devoted to the vaccination campaign.

Were not from the government, and were here to help. The essential purpose of this newsletter, in the words of MM+M GM and editor-in-chief Steve Madden, is to bring together some of the finest minds in communication to aid the creation of meaningful, effective work to help end the pandemic. We need messaging that convinces all people to get vaccinated, and to practice good public health habits until weve reached herd immunity. It will take the dedicated and focused work of everyone in this field, including you.

Lets get to work. Many of you are already hard at it.

This weeks edition of The Vaccine Project Newsletter is 2,771 words long and will take you nine minutes to read.

The communications effort

The pandemic has given new life and meaning to the adage, Vaccines dont prevent disease; vaccinations do. The shortest distance between those two points is a straight linea line of clear and meaningful communication.

The takeaway: Trusted. Local. Messengers.

The rollout

Frank Cerabino, a columnist for the Palm Beach (FL) Post, whimsically suggests that we turn Amazon delivery drivers into vaccinators and send them door-to-door. Given the alternative, perhaps this is not so whimsical after all.

The takeaway: Being vaccinated is getting an extra present for Christmas, Hanukkah or Kwanzaa. Waiting to be vaccinated is Festivus for the rest of us.

The challenges

Nothing is simple, least of all a massive vaccination campaign. Gotta work through the pain. Need more reps.

The takeaway: There is some good news in the seeming chaos of the scrum for shots, says MM+M GM and editor-in-chief Steve Madden. People want it.

The vaccine dashboard

We now find ourselves in the middle of a high-stakes global chess match: vaccines versus variants. We need to stay one move ahead.

The takeaway: As Mercks experience dramatically demonstrates, creating new vaccines is anything but a sure bet. Which makes the successes all the more remarkable.

The resources

Think about how much weve learned about this thing called coronavirus in the past year and weve only just begun.

and some songs

Undivided, Tim McGraw and Tyler Hubbard

The Age of Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In, The Fifth Dimension

Our Day Will Come, Ruby and the Romantics

Another busy week. Were on it, so tune in tomorrow for your Haymarket Media Coronavirus Briefing newsletter. Stay well. And please mask up, both for those you love and for the rest of us.

‘Great Chess Move’: Why Mike Hart Will Boost Michigan’s In-State Recruiting – Rivals.com – Michigan

There has been a negative perception surrounding the Michigan Wolverines' in-state recruiting efforts in recent years under head coach Jim Harbaugh. While co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Sherrone Moore, a star on the recruiting trail, has spearheaded the program's midwest recruiting, the Wolverines have not dedicated a recruiter to specifically handle efforts in Detroit and the state of Michigan.

'The best players in Michigan go to Michigan' has been a mantra, and true at times. But with the new hires Harbaugh has made on his assistant coaching staff, it appears that it has a great chance to become a reality once again.

This month, Harbaugh hired Mike Hart, the Maize and Blue's leading rusher of all time, to coach running backs, sending shockwaves throughout the Michigan community. Since his NFL playing days were over, Hart has excelled as a coach at Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Syracuse and, most recently, Indiana, where he was promoted to associate head coach in addition to his duties leading the Hoosiers' running backs.

The Michigan legend was the talk of the Sound Mind Sound Body College Evaluation camp held in Wixom, Mich. Jan. 18. There is belief that Hart can bolster the Maize and Blue's in-state recruiting efforts in a big way.

"Super exciting. Its going to provide a direct link from the city to Ann Arbor once again," Harper Woods high school head coach Rod Oden said. "We havent had that in a couple years. As of right now, I dont even think they got a coach assigned to our area.
