Google Photos will soon remove the free unlimited storage option for high-quality photos and videos. The new Google Photos policy will come into effect on June 1, 2021. So, after three months, Google Photos will only offer 15GB of free cloud storage for photos and videos. Once you exceed the mentioned limit, you will have to pay for more storage, which might be bad news for those who have been uploading unlimited high-quality photos to Google Photos for free.
Do note that the 15GB cloud storage space also includes data of Gmail, Google Drive, and other Google services. Google announced the new policy back in November 2020 and you now just have 3 months to decide whether you want to accept the policy of Google or switch to any other cloud storage. Well, there are a lot ofGoogle Photos alternatives that offer free cloud storage space. We have also mentioned the ones that are offering a lot of storage space for a little price. DigiBoxx, which is Indias very own cloud storage platform, is offering 20GB of free cloud storage. The free plan supports Gmail integration and unlimited external collaborations too. The company says that its service supports end-to-encryption too.
DigiBoxx is giving 100GB of storage space per month for just Rs 30, which is huge and is a big relief for those who usually have a lot of photos or videos. You can also buy the annual plan, which is priced at Rs 360. For the same price, you are getting up to 2TB of storage space. Google, on the other hand, is charging Rs 1,300 annually for 100GB space.
You can also try Degoo, which is also one of the best alternatives to Google Photos. The company offers you 100GB of free cloud storage and there are no ads. You will rarely find any such cloud storage service offering 100GB of space for free. Just like DigiBoxx, Degoo also claims that all the files are end-to-end encrypted, so users dont need to worry about security. Additionally, only three devices can upload files with the free plan.
We are not done yet, you will get an extra 5GB of cloud storage space if you sign up for this cloud storage service. There are other features too, which you can check on the site. As for the paid plans, the 500GB storage plan will cost $2.99 per month, which is around Rs 220 in India. There is also a 10TB plan, which is priced at $9.99 per month (approximately Rs 735). These are again the best cloud storage plans and no other company is offering so much storage space at low prices.

OneDrive is Microsofts cloud storage service, which will offer you great services, just like Google. The service supports auto back up of files, auto syncing, and one can even share a lot of files with anyone they want. You only get 5GB of free storage with this service, which very less compared to Google, but you atleast get 100GB storage space for Rs 140 per month.If you have a Microsoft 365 subscription, then you dont need to buy the companys OneDrive subscription as you already get 1TB of storage space. with Microsoft 365 membership. The OneDrive subscription is a decent option for those who use Microsoft services.
If you are looking for best Google Photos alternative, then it is hard to ignore the services offered by Amazon Photos. Though, it is currently available in select countries. IBM speeds up Cloud Object Storage with LucidLink Blocks and Files – Blocks and Files
IBM is to offer LucidLink Filespaces, a fast-file protocol, as a turnkey bundle with Cloud Object Store.
The companies say the bundle can cost less than standard prices from AWS, Azure and other S3-compatible object stores. Peter Thompson, LucidLink CEO, said in a statement: Now, with IBM Cloud, we will be able to further offer egress fees 60 per cent lower than our previous offering to a wider audience and pass those saving directly along to our customers.
Adam Kocoloski, IBM Fellow, VP and CTO, Cloud Data Services, said: As companies adjust to a new way of working, the ability to securely share and access large amounts of data remotely while taking advantage of object storage in a cloud environment has become indispensable.
The IBM COS LucidLink bundle is designed for applications that require fast file-protocol access to massive datasets. These are stored most cost-effectively as object repositories rather than in more expensive NAS filer systems. However object stores are slower to access than filers unless they are front-ended with LucidLinks Filespaces or an equivalent software.
FileSpaces runs in a set of local nodes that cache wanted data. There network connection between this local node and an object store, translates between file and the S3 object protocols. All the file metadata is held in the local node so file:folder lookups do not incur network hop latencies.
User file sharing is supported. Julie OGrady, LucidLinks marketing director, told us. Filespaces enables teams to collaborate on the same file, no matter where they are located.
All access to the object store is carried out using parallel links to speed file reads and writes. All file reads result in partial file transmission with pre-fetching of data that is likely to be needed next. File writes are packaged by the Filespaces cache node, and then compressed, encrypted and multiplexed across parallel links to the back-end object store. The net effect of the caching, local metadata look-up and pre-fetching is that remote object access can be as fast as local filer access.
In May 2019 IBM had a partnership with file collaborator Panzura to provide a Freedom Cloud file access front-end to its object store. The focus was on file sharing. Todays LucidLink-IBM partnership has a focus on file access speed.
IBM is supporting access to all its US data centres together with its UK and Australian data centres. The bundle does not support on-premises IBM COS deployments.
