Global Cloud IT Infrastructure Spending will Touch $70bn This Year – BusinessGhana

Cloud computing has surged in recent years, changing the way people communicate, manage data and do business. Billions of private and business users take advantage of on-demand technology.

However, with coronavirus lockdown rules in place and millions of people spending more time indoors and online, the global demand for cloud services has soared over the last few months. This growing need for cloud solutions has led to increased spending on hardware and software components needed to support the computing requirements.

Global cloud IT infrastructure spending is expected to grow 3.6% year-on-year, reaching $69.2bn in 2020, according to data gathered by LearnBonds.

Today, billions of people use personal cloud storage to manage and store private data. However, its ability to provide access to computing power that would otherwise be extremely expensive has seen cloud computing technology spread widely in the business sector, also.

The examples of cloud computing use can be found practically everywhere, from social networking, messaging apps, and streaming services to business processes, office tools, chatbots, or lending and trading platforms.

In 2013, the global spending on cloud IT infrastructure, including hardware, abstracted resources, storage, and network resources, amounted to $22.3bn, revealed Statista data and the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Cloud IT Infrastructure Tracker. Over the next four years, this amount grew to $47.4bn. The trend has continued to grow strongly so that global cloud IT infrastructure spending has tripled since 2013.

IDC`s report revealed that public cloud infrastructure spending is expected to drive the global market growth this year.

Research director of Infrastructure Systems, Platforms, and Technologies at IDC, Kuba Stolarski said: As enterprise IT budgets tighten through the year, the public cloud will see an increase in demand for services.

This increase will come in part from the surge of work-from-home employees using online collaboration tools, but also from workload migration to the public cloud as enterprises seek ways to save money for the current year. Once the coast is clear of the coronavirus, we expect some of this new cloud service demand to remain sticky going forward.

IDCs five-year forecast predicts cloud IT infrastructure spending will reach $100.1 bn by 2024, growing by a compound annual rate of growth of 8.4%.

The growing need for cloud solutions recently has led to a surge in the vendor revenue from cloud IT infrastructure. In 2019, they made a $63.97bn profit from selling these IT products and solutions, 30% more compared to 2017 figures. The 2019 data also showed that ODM Direct held 32% of the market. Dell Technologies and HPE follow with 16% and 11.7% market share, respectively.

According to a global CIO survey, public cloud adoption was the key draw for many companies in 2020, with 79% of polled groups planning to make heavy to moderate adoption of cloud technology. AI/machine learning ranked as the second-most wanted technology, with 72% of firms planning to use it in 2020.

Statistics show that 70% of businesses plan to adopt private cloud solutions this year, followed by 63% of companies who prefer multi-cloud solutions.

Royal College of Nursing supports frontline nurses during COVID-19 pandemic with online information hub – RealWire

London, UK. 7th May, 2020. The Royal College of Nursing (RCN), the worlds largest nursing union and professional body, has partnered with digital preservation specialist Preservica to ensure vital medical and clinical guidance is made available online and preserved for its 450,000 members during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bulletin April issue cover

The information is critical to supporting front-line NHS nurses, midwives, student and newly qualified nurses, support workers and retired nurses returning to duty at this unprecedented time. The initiative is helping reassure RCN staff and senior decision-makers that records documenting decisions and actions of the RCN, as well as advice given to members, are being actively collected. Actions include the RCN lobbying the UK government on the availability of testing and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for its members.

Real-time digital preservation & access

Led by the RCNs archives team, the college has already made more than a thousand historical clinical guidance publications available online through a secure members portal. The very latest information on tackling infectious diseases and a full summary of all UK government advice and statements is available on the RCN website.

The team is also actively capturing and preserving RCN website bulletins related to COVID-19, and working with the RCNs comms team to harvest testimonials of front-line nurses that have been shared on social media. The aim is to document the contribution of the college and its members for future generations and enable the RCN to supply evidence that demonstrate its role and actions during the pandemic.

Fiona Bourne, Archive Manager at the RCN, commented: A lot of nursing students have just qualified, and theyre going straight into the workforce to tackle the pandemic. Without that depth of experience, its part of our job to ensure that they have access to vital clinical information as well as the most up to date advice and guidance so they can come up to speed quickly and safely.

#ourcovid19story

The RCN is using Preservicas online digital preservation and discovery platform to quickly capture, preserve and make material securely accessible to members no matter where they are or what device they might be using.

The college is also participating in an initiative launched by Preservica called #ourcovid19story that is donating additional free cloud storage to the user community for COVID-19 related collections.

This has taken pressure off the RCN archive team enabling them to ensure information is collected and made available in near-real-time without worrying about storage space. The cloud hosted Preservica application has also meant that the team have been able to remain productive while working remotely during lockdown.

Fiona added: If, as seems likely in the future, there is a public enquiry about the governments response to the pandemic, well be able to provide evidence promptly and effectively to the relevant body. That same evidence will show what the organisation has done in terms of advice and support for nurses and care workers across the NHS and the independent sector, and the contribution of key staff to government advisory committees.

Mike Quinn, Preservicas CEO, commented: We are humbled by the work the RCN archive team are doing to support their members on the frontline of this pandemic as well as documenting their heroic work for future generations. This along with all our customers using Preservica to actively capture and preserve this unprecedented time in our history fills us with enormous pride.

The RCN, along with other speakers from the City of Boston, the University at Buffalo, Network Rail and Rhode Island Department of State, will be talking about their work on an upcoming webinar: Preservation in real time: delivering value to you institution & community during a global pandemic

Will Governments encourage WFH, e-learning in the future? What does it mean for IT infrastructure development? – Kalkine Media

With the rapid spread of the coronavirus disease, COVID-19, the world has witnessed many things for the first time in history. Lockdowns, social distancing measures as well as life behind closed doors, have compelled people to adapt and overcome specific challenges and resume several essential services with the help of technological advancements.

Technology has played a pivotal role during this lockdown period by keeping many services ongoing, primarily by facilitating services like e-learning as well as work from home for businesses. While students and working professionals are staying behind closed doors, technology has kept the doors open for learning as well as working at remote locations through online platforms.

Changing Imperative for Education and Businesses

For quite some time governments and institutions across the globe have been trying to seed and nurture e-learning habits among the people through several initiatives. Establishing the required infrastructure and running the same with effectiveness has always been a challenge for the service providers.

However, a greater challenge was the shift in the learning habits of the people. For several years, e-learning has been a choice of limited students only, especially the working class or people who are engaged in distance learning.

In a time where COVID-19 pandemic has forced everyone to operate through remote locations, it looks like almost every challenge of infrastructure development has been overcome. Also, it seems that there is a growing acceptance among the people to work in a manner that the situation demands. Along with online classes, as well as other learning services, being available online, numerous businesses are operating in full swing from remote locations.

Information technology and software companies have been the front line players in turning the table around for businesses as well as learning institutions in current times of high uncertainty.

Related: Higher Consumer Spending Boosts ASX-listed Retail Stocks

If researchers and experts are to be believed, the change in the behaviour of the people like increased acceptance of e-learning, online shopping, as well as work from home habits, is likely to remain in place during the post-lockdown period. However, a lot depends on the governments assessment to find it prudent to continue to promote e-learning as well as working from home.

This shall require a lot of enhancements to the existing infrastructure of e-learning as well as for businesses to continue working from home like improved streaming, security enhancements, cloud services for data storage, among other factors.

Improved Streaming

Staying connected and maintaining communication is the backbone of any business. Currently, if e-learning and work from home have turned out to be a successful attempt in keeping the companies running then online streaming service providers deserve much applause.

In recent times of high uncertainty, the need for connecting through online modes has seen an enormous surge. People and businesses have been flocking towards online methods to keep up with their jobs, learning as well as staying connecting with the world.

ASX-listed software platform LiveTiles Limited (ASX:LVT) offers a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform for the enhancement of workplace efficiencies and has significantly escalated its process of digitisation.

According to media sources, LVT has been able to close several deals in a short period, something that would have otherwise taken a significantly longer time to finalise. The quick closure of contracts was due to the unpreparedness of the clients and lack of infrastructure and tools available.

With institutions as well as businesses increasingly accepting and implementing these improved solutions, it looks like in the coming times an increasing number of organisations shall offer work from home to their employees and e-learning shall be the new normal.

Interesting Read: Online Business Models come to the rescue of ASX Retailers amid COVID-19

Security Enhancement

Conducting e-learning and business activities like meetings, through online mode can be a risky affair if proper security is not maintained. In recent times, we have seen some online streaming platform being flagged as insecure for conducting businesses meetings, and there have been a lot of awareness generation going on.

Any loophole in the security of the online streaming platforms can result in data breaches, identity theft as well as disruption of operations and critical infrastructure. Experts have also raised the alarm about maintaining adequate security during current times when people are increasingly relying on technology to carry out confidential business operations.

In the longer term, maintaining security and improvising over the same shall be a challenge for the information technology and cybersecurity companies engaged in offering safe and secure streaming and connectivity services.

Cloud Services for Data Storage

With an ever-increasing usage and sharing of data through online mode, the situation is expected to create a need for massive data storage capabilities both in physical devices as well as virtually through cloud storage services. As the demand for online services is increasing, information technology companies might face the challenge of data storage capacity.

Data storage is an integral part of the development of information technology infrastructure as an increasing number of institutions as well as students are embracing e-learning, and numerous businesses have already allowed their workforce to function from remote locations.

Bottomline

The world is undergoing a transformation during the COVID-19 period, and so are humans adapting to the same. Although not everything is up and running, many services have made it through these times of hardship with the help of technology. As lockdown is being lifted in several regions and restrictions are easing, there may be a change in the way several services operate, and preferences of the people that we might be able to see. One of the preferences of citizens is anticipated to be increased intent towards e-learning and work from home. It will be interesting to wait and watch how things unfold in the coming times.

3 Ways Dell Technologies Is ‘Raising The Bar’ Across Its Partner Program – CRN: Technology news for channel partners and solution providers

In Darren Sullivans nearly 20 years at Dell Technologies, hes never been more bullish on the companys channel strategy as a slew of new oerings are being added to the Dell Technologies Partner Program.

In light of the things weve teed up in terms of program design, how were improving the partner experienceIve never been more optimistic about what the potential is for our partners, said Sullivan, senior vice president of global partner strategy and operations. We are really raising the bar here. Our tagline of Simple, Predictable, Protablethose arent just words. We take those to heart. I feel like weve never been better at being able to fulfill that promise to partners with the things that were doing this year.

In an interview with CRN, Sullivan details three elements that are elevating the Dell Technologies Partner Program.

Recognizing Partners With End-To-End Capabilities

Were announcing our new Proven Partner Services Competency. This is going to recognize partners with comprehensive proven capabilities to design and deliver Dell Technologies infrastructure and solutions end to end. These competencies will be initially available in two solution areas: data center infrastructure, which includes alignment across server, networking, storage and data protection competencies; and hyperconverged infrastructure, which includes HCI, networking, server and data protection competencies. So were really excited about this addition to the program to really recognize those partners who have those comprehensive end-to-end capabilities for our solutions.

A partner with a competency will be prioritized in our Find A Partner capability in our partner portal. The goal is to give them priority access to leads from our internal sales force. So we want to make sure this is a strong go-to-market engine so that partners who have these capabilities and are successful in working in these solution areas, that those partners are well-known to our internal sales force to collaborate on deals. Theyll also get early access to new services competencies as they become available.

The Dell Technologies Partner Program is largely designed in terms of our requirements around partner revenue thresholds to achieve tiers as well as their certi cations. What we want to really make sure with these new competencies is we have a program structure that is traditionally oriented, but then complement it in ways to recognize partners through branding and additional access to training in order to recognize those partners that provide broader end-to-end capabilities across our portfolio.

Revamping The Solutions Configurator Tool Provides Immediate Benefits To Partners

We made an effort this year to integrate our quoting platform across server, networking and storage. Were using our Solutions Congurator tool to bring together the Dell EMC storage products into the same platform as we provide server and networking to partners. But its not just about bringing these products together, were also enhancing the capabilities for our partners in everything from deal registration to orders. There are immediate benets just in terms of being able to work in one tool, which makes it easier for our partners to work with us so theyre not having to access multiple tools that are set up dierently with dierent processes and policies and so forth, but instead one consistent solution for our ISG [Infrastructure Solutions Group] portfolio.

Were also going to be providing much greater pricing transparency in the tool so when youre a partner who has an approved deal registration, its integrated with your quote and were able to show our partners what their pricing advantage is on that particular opportunity versus all other partners who dont have a registration.

Eliminating Quarterly Growth Targeting Process Drives Simpler Approach

We have eliminated our quarterly growth targeting process for our resellers. In the past, they received a target across seven lines of business, four times a year across all of our medal-tiered partners. It was a really complicated and a not very predicable component of our program. So we have chosen to eliminate that to drive a simpler approach.

We also simplified our programs product rebate structure from seven lines of business with two or three product categories within each line of business to just three lines of business: client, server and storage. It makes it easier for partners to understand and operationalize as opposed to maintaining rates across all of those elements.

Weve increased our program automation so that its more transparent to partners on what is rebate-eligible in the quoting process as opposed to after-the-quarter reconciliation. What weve introduced on the quoting tool is visibility up front so a partner will know if theyre eligible to receive rebates on that particular quote or not. What that provides is advanced notice so that they dont go through the whole selling cycle and not realize that, after end of quarter, it might not have been rebate-eligible. So were providing that visibility right up front so that partners know whats eligible or what is not for rebate earnings

Free cloud storage: Which providers offer the most space – Android Authority

In this post, we take a look at the 10 best free cloud providers that offer the most storage. But keep in mind that this list only contains reputable and well-known companies were willing to recommend. There are other providers out there that offer more free storage, but some of them are brand new to the market and seem sketchy because they try their hardest to keep their details (location, phone number, address) hidden.

Not every provider is trustworthy. Uploading sensitive files to a cloud managed by a company that may have bad intentions is not a good idea. And if the provider is brand new to the market and their business plan doesnt go as imagined, it can close shop overnight, possibly leaving you without access to your files.

If you already know what cloud storage is, how it works, and why you should use it, feel free to skip this section and scroll down to check out the list of the best cloud storage providers. Everyone else, keep reading.

The concept of cloud storage is easy to understand. The cloud is basically just a remote database. Its a server maintained by the provider that lets you store your images, videos, documents, and other files. To access the files, all you need is your account login info and an internet connection.

You can access your files in the cloud from any device with an internet connection.

But, why not store everything on my PC instead, you ask? One of the reasons is that by storing files to the cloud, you can access them from any device with an internet connection. If you store files on your PC, you can only access them from that PC.

Another reason is that your files are safer in the cloud then they are on your PC. If your computer can get damaged, lost, or stolen, you can say goodbye to all those vacation photos and your movie collection. You can also share files with other people more easily from the cloud, especially larger ones that cant be attached to emails because of size limits.

An additional benefit of cloud storage comes into play when you buy a new PC. Instead of manually transferring your data from your old device to the new one, you can just log into your cloud account and, voila, all your files are right there on your new machine.

Of course, cloud storage isnt perfect. It has its share of problems that you need to be aware of. The biggest one is that if someone gets ahold of your account login info, theyll be able to get access to all the files stored in your account. You also need an internet connection to view the files in the cloud, which may cause problems for some at times especially road warriors.

Editors note: Well update this post with new providers once they launch or when current ones make changes to their free plans.

Degoo is far ahead of the competition, offering a whopping 100GB of free cloud storage. However, the service has a number of limitations in place you have to be aware of. The biggest one is that you can only upload files from one device. Theres no such limit for viewing or downloading files, though you can do that on as many devices you want.

The service is supported by ads, and you have to log in at least once every 90 days to make sure your account stays active. With that in mind, Degoo definitely isnt the most user-friendly cloud service on this list, but it does offer plenty of storage.

The nitty-gritty:

Co-founded by the controversial Kim Dotcom, Mega comes in second on this list by offering 50GB of free storage. But theres a catch: the 50GB is available for the first 30 days only, after which the storage gets bumped down to 15GB. You can get extra storage by installing the desktop app (20GB) and the mobile app (15GB), although both expire after 180 days. You also get an additional 10GB of free storage for one year when a friend of yours signs up for the service.

Mega technically doesnt have a size limit for the files you upload, but it does have bandwidth limit thats pretty strict. You can upload a maximum of 1GB of data every six hours, which obviously means that the largest file you can upload is 1GB.

The nitty-gritty:

This is the cloud service I recommend to most people, provided they dont need more than 15GB of storage. Its super easy to use, is available on all the major platforms, and doesnt contain ads. But one thing to keep in mind is that the 15GB of storage is shared between Drive, Gmail, and Photos.

Google Drive is well integrated with Gmail, allowing you to quickly save email attachments to Drive. The service also lets you share files with ease and allows you to easily back up your devices. This is by far my favorite cloud storage service.

The nitty-gritty:

Box is a popular and well-known cloud storage provider. Its 10GB of free storage is generous, although not market-leading. Theres a file size limit in place for uploads that is set at 250MB.

The service offers standard features you get with most other providers. You can create folders to organize your files, share files with just a few clicks, and access your files from different platforms, among other things.

The nitty-gritty:

This provider isnt as popular as Google Drive or Box, but its a great one nonetheless. You get 10GB of cloud storage for free and theres no file size limit in place for uploads.

pCloud is packed with loads of great features. You can share files with ease, access your files from multiple devices across different platforms, and recover and access older versions of your account up to 30 days. The service even has a built-in video and audio players. If you need more storage, you can opt for a monthly plan or a one-time lifetime fee.

The nitty-gritty:

Icedrive is a relatively new player on the market it launched in January 2019. You get 10GB of free storage and a daily bandwidth of 3GB, which limits the size of the files you can upload.

Since its a newcomer, it doesnt offer all the features you get with some of the bigger players. Theres no two-factor authentication available, nor is there file versioning. But Icedrive still has the main features youd expect from a cloud storage and is a solid option overall.

The nitty-gritty:

MediaFire lets you store and share files with ease, with free users getting 10GB of free storage. Individual files are limited to a maximum of 4GB per upload.

The service lets you upload multiple files at once and can be used on various platforms including Windows, Android, and iOS. It supports all the major files out there, allowing you to upload images, videos, documents, and more. Unfortunately, the service is supported by ads, which can get annoying fast.

The nitty-gritty:

This cloud storage is mainly focused on media files (images, videos), although you can store documents and other files as well. Users praise the service for its fast upload speeds as well as a decent amount of free storage at 10GB.

Theres a 5GB file size limit for uploads, which is quite generous. Apps are available for PC/Mac, Android, and iOS, so you can upload files and get access to them regardless of the device youre using.

The nitty-gritty:

Syncplicity doesnt stand out from the crowd, but it still gets the job done. You get all the basic features like the ability to sort files by folders, share files with others, and even tag them. The good news is that, unlike some other providers, Syncplicity doesnt have a file size upload limit in place.

You get 10GB of space for your images, videos, documents, and other files. The service is available on all the major platforms and offers paid plans for those looking for extra storage.

The nitty-gritty:

The last free cloud storage service on this list is Microsofts OneDrive, which offers the least amount of space at just 5GB. But you can use it as part of your Microsoft account if you already have one so you dont need to sign up for the service separately.

In addition to all the basic features youd expect from a service like this, OneDrive also comes with a Personal Vault that adds an additional layer of security for those extra sensitive documents. But on free accounts, you can only store up to three files in it.

The nitty-gritty:

Theres a reason why the list above lacks a few big names. Apples iCloud service only offers 5GB of data, just like Microsofts OneDrive. But unlike OneDrive, iCloud is primarily aimed at those who own an Apple device. And if you sign up for the service with a PC, you only get 1GB of storage instead of five. Nevertheless, its a great service overall if youre an Apple user and we have no problem recommending it, but just keep the storage limit in mind. If you need more space, opt for one of the providers mentioned in this post.

Read next: How to backup your Android phone to the cloud

Dropbox is another great service that we recommend, although it didnt make our list because it only offers 2GB of free cloud storage. Thats not much, but if its enough for you, were confident youll be happy with the service.

Amazon Drive is also a great service, offering 5GB of free storage to its users. Thats on par with OneDrive we included on our list, but we recommend Microsofts solution over Amazons because its more feature-packed and easier to use.

More free storage is always better, but its not the only thing you should focus on. For example, while Degoo offers the most storage at 100GB, I wouldnt recommend it to users who dont need that much space. The service has loads of limitations in place, one of them being that you can only upload files from a single device.

So before you sign up for a service, try to figure out how much online storage you actually need. If you need more than 50GB, then something like Degoo is your best option. But if just 10GB or even less will do, a service like Google Drive is a much better option.

Google Drive is a storage service that lets you save various files to the cloud and then access them from your smartphone, tablet, or computer. You can store documents, images, videos, and even back up

There you have it these are the 10 best cloud storage providers that offer the most space. Well update this post when new providers launch or current ones make changes to their free plans. In the meantime, let us know which of the services listed in this post would you consider signing up for.

Looking to the cloud during lockdown | Industry Trends – IBC365

If there was ever going to be a single event to test the capabilities of the cloud storage and file transfer solutions that have emerged during the past decade, then Coronavirus undoubtedly fits the bill. But it is unlikely that even the most far-sighted vendor could have foreseen the sudden and substantial shift in favour of broadcast presenters and production teams working from home.

While the main differences to the viewer are likely to be a greater variation in picture quality and an increased opportunity to view on-air contributors bookshelves, the impact behind the scenes has been significant and complex. Fresh from a webinar canvassing opinion from content makers in Australia, Dropbox head of media Andy Wilson reports that the resounding feedback was that bandwidth was their number one challenge, which is directly linked to the need to move large media files.

At the domestic end, variable bandwidth has meant an increased interest in solutions that provide preview-style features that reduce the need for files to be downloaded in their entirety, as well the capacity to split up files for easier transfer pre- and post-editing. Seamless synchronisation between multiple users machines at home and the cloud has also become more critical, while on the broadcast centre side technical teams have had to ensure they have both robust network access capability and sufficient storage leading to the implementation of more hybrid solutions involving both cloud and on-site facilities.

As Wilson notes, every area of content production and broadcast has been affected by the outbreak, but whats been noticeable is how swiftly huge numbers of personnel have made the transition to working from home raising the possibility that a greater inclination towards remote working by broadcast teams could be one lasting legacy of the current crisis.

File transfer focusReducing the need to move large files around has become more critical with domestic bandwidth now more of a concern especially as the sheer fact of the lockdown has yielded more regular spikes in internet traffic. Hence there has been an increased demand for technologies that allow content to be worked on remotely without the need for subsequent re-uploading in its entirety.

For example, Dropboxs Delta Sync allows video and audio producers to only upload the changes to files, rather than having to re-upload the whole file, says Wilson. We are working with a radio broadcaster in the US that is a heavy user of this technology to help editors to make quick changes to packages, but only upload a much smaller amount of data.

Vendors also report a heightened awareness of file identification times and ease of transport from multiple sources. Jon Finegold, chief marketing officer at Signiant, highlights the capacity of its Media Shuttle SaaS to make it very easy, fast and secure to access any size file from any type of storage. Operations teams can manage everything from the web and have complete visibility and control over all file access. Inevitably, with more users likely to be drawing from a larger number of sources, accessibility has to be delivered in tandem with robust content protection: All Signiant products are designed with enterprise-grade security, and so while we have seen a massive surge in usage since the pandemic began, these are the problems weve been solving for the industry for many years.

Quicker content preview and commenting features are also proving to be beneficial. Wilson points to Dropbox Previews automatic transcoding of files into a streaming preview, allowing editors, producers and execs to watch content back without having to wait to download the full file. They can then decide whether they want to commit to downloading the content or if it was the right content in the first place.

The service has also recently been enhanced with time-based comments, reducing the imperative for remarks to be emailed back and forth: This helps remote teams give feedback really quickly, speeding up the post-production process.

David Phillips, principal architect M&E solutions at Cloudian, also places an emphasis on rapid identification of the required content when and where it is needed. Working in partnership with content management company Storage Made Easy, Cloudian can offer features such as the ability to view image thumbnails in a gallery format for photo libraries, as well as transcoding and proxy creation for high-resolution mezzanine codec files.

Accessing archive contentWhile effective cloud-based workflows for new production is one priority concern, then access to, and management, of archive material is another. Having the ability to fully access and efficiently manage archives is especially important now more than ever, says Rick Phelps, CCO of video content management and delivery company Ownzones.

With filming essentially halted worldwide, companies must now rely on either content thats recently been shot or their archived content in order to continue to monetise during the pandemic.

Hence a substantial surge in demand for Ownzones Connect platform, which makes it possible for companies to service their entire library of archived content from end-to-end entirely in the cloud, says Smith, who goes on to highlight the recent introduction of an AI-driven content library consolidation tool called FrameDNA.

The requirement to share content across multiple types of storage is also having an impact and leading many broadcasters to embrace a hybrid philosophy. Observing the demand from IT teams to spin up storage and manage it entirely remotely [but with] the ability to access and share content on any type of storage, Signiants Finegold remarks that a hybrid cloud approach where users and administrators can orchestrate activity from the web while leaving assets on-premise, in the cloud or both is the best approach for media companies.

While many organisations had already been looking at greater adoption of cloud storage, the current crisis has been something of a catalyst, says George Kilpatrick, CEO of Masstech, whose offers include modular storage platform Kumulate. Consequently, weve had a number of enquiries regarding the ability of Masstech systems to incorporate cloud into on-premise systems, and we have been actively reaching out to help our customer base implement new workflows, policies and storage tiers to help adapt their existing Masstech systems to the remote workspace.

Lasting legacy?Given the remarkable speed with which many broadcasters have adjusted to this strange new reality, it seems almost inevitable that there will be an enduring influence on day-to-day operations. As Michelle Munson, CEO and founder of content management and distribution innovator Eluvio, remarks: The thoughtfulness of everyone is currently at an all-time high There is a lot of thought going on about next-generation approaches to monetising libraries and increasing digital agility.

Once the crisis dissipates, there will definitely be a period of reflection on what workflows were really effective and which need to be evolved, suggests Wilson. But with more remote working capabilities in place and a greater overall confidence that content can be delivered reliably by dispersed teams, a diminished emphasis on centralised production appears inevitable.

People will always want face-to-face collaboration, says Phillips, but I think there is going to be a realisation of how much people are able to do at distance. Rather than be in the office 40 hours or more a week, [production teams] will be more inclined to time-shift their activities and do more work remotely. I think that it will be fascinating to see how this develops over time.

SAN ANTONIO, May 4, 2020 /PRNewswire/ --Coviant Software, a provider of Managed File Transfer software that provides an easy way to automate, secure, manage, and audit file transfers while maintaining the highest levels of security and compliance, has extended its Diplomat MFT product to support the Google Cloud Healthcare API. This move follows quickly after the announcement by Google that the Cloud Healthcare API is now generally available, making Coviant Software the first and only MFT vendor to fully support Google Cloud Healthcare API for data exchange.

The Google Cloud Healthcare API provides a suite of capabilities designed to enable standardized data exchanges between healthcare applications and solutions built on Google Cloud. It provides support for FHIR, DICOM, and HL7 data integration, and is fully HIPAA compliant. Once stored in data sets on the Google Cloud Platform, the healthcare data can be de-identified for privacy, and can be easily integrated into data processing, analytics, and AI on the platform.

Coviant Software Diplomat MFT provides automated, secure file transfers from any endpoint, to any endpoint. "Diplomat MFT already supports easily transferring data to Google Cloud Storage," says Greg Hoffer, CEO of Coviant Software. "When we learned that the Google Cloud Healthcare API plays an important role in the management, analytics, and exchange of this important and sensitive data, we quickly extended our solution to make integration into the Google Cloud Healthcare API as simple as ticking a box and filling in a few fields. Now healthcare customers can leverage the cost savings and security of Google Cloud storage and easily take advantage of the power and flexibility of Google Cloud Healthcare API."

Coviant Diplomat MFT is a cross-platform software solution that runs on-premises, in the cloud, or in a hybrid deployment. What Is Blockchain Storage and How Does It Work – TechFunnel

In evaluating the differences between blockchain storage and cloud storage, it is necessary to explain that blockchain storage provides the users with the platform to store information on a network of peers. However, cloud storage takes the users data and divides it into tiny bits.

Therefore, some companies like Sia, Amazon, and Storj establish networks that enable users to pay meager amounts in order to store data on extra space on their devices.

Blockchain storage utilizes extra spaces on devices. This, therefore, differentiates it from the traditional cloud that experiences constant overheads. In addition, the pricing plans are very flexible.

Another contrasting feature between blockchain storage and cloud storage is that unlike cloud storage services, such as Google Drive (which is known to store all files, including deleted files in the system), decentralized blockchain data files are segmented and passed for distribution across numerous nodes

Furthermore, cloud storage has been structured to provide the user with control of data as it stored in a remote setting that is under the management of cloud service providers.

However, with blockchain storage, the users data is totally decentralized. This is because it has been designed to store data across several nodes all over the world.

Another difference is that blockchain storage technology optimizes the preexisting servers. These decentralized systems do not need significant investment. This helps to save money for both the business and end-users.

Also, every time a fresh transaction takes place, the blockchain is verified in the system. This happens before the transaction is recorded as the next block on the chain.

Unlike cloud storage, it is however not practical to store large pieces of data in a blockchain. This is why certain blockchain storage technology providers only send hashes across the nodes of distribution.
