Say Goodbye to Storage Woes: Heres How to Expand Your iCloud … – Softonic EN
The amount of data we store in iCloud is increasing. Between photos, videos, documents and files, it is common that the available space is progressively reduced. For this reason, after deleting some backups, we scroll to the iCloud options on our devices to buy more space. However, what happens if we already have the maximum 2TB?
There is a resource that allows us to skip this apparent storage limit and subscribe to have exactly twice as much: 4TB. An amount of space in the cloud enough to store practically everything we need in a comfortable way.
The key to have 4TB in iCloud is to combine the storage available in iCloud+ and Apple One. iCloud+ is a subscription that mainly allows more space in the cloud. It also gives us access to some extra services such as iCloud Private Relay or the Hide My Mail feature, for example. Apple One is a subscription pack that includes Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade and, depending on the plan, Apple Fitness+. A package that, importantly, comes with extra space in iCloud, just what we are interested in.
If we subscribe to Apple One, the maximum available space is 2TB. If we subscribe to iCloud+ the maximum space is also 2TB. But, if we combine both subscriptions, we will have an Apple account with 4TB to store almost anything.
We can start by subscribing to iCloud+ and choose the 2TB storage plan, which costs 9.99 per month. Then, we can subscribe to Apple One and choose the Premium plan, which costs 31.95 per month and includes 2TB of space. In this way, the total cost would be 41.99 euros per month and the available storage would reach 4TB.
In fact, thanks to being able to combine the storage plans of both services, we can have much more flexibility when it comes to getting exactly the space we need. Between Apple One and iCloud+ we can choose 50, 100, 200, 250, 250, 400, 2000, 2050, 2200 and 4000 GB according to our needs. A space that, in addition, we can share with up to five people in the family, six if we count ourselves, so that, sharing the payment and space, we can adapt even more what we need.
Thus, the limit of 2TB of space in iCloud is only apparent, as can happen with these 14 hidden settings and functions of iOS, because, combining plans, we can reach just twice as much. Something that, it must be said, is not necessarily usual to save our content in the cloud, but if it is a lot of information we want to store, Apple offers us this option.

Google Drive Has a 5 Million Item Cap, Even if You Have Storage Space Left – CNET
Google Drive now limits users to 5 million items. A Google Workspace spokesperson confirmed the change in an email Monday evening.
This comes as a Reddit user posted a thread Monday saying Google had imposed a 5 million item limit on peoples' Driveaccounts, without prior warning. The Reddit user said people began receiving "Upload Failed" notifications around Feb. 14 for any action, including creating a new empty folder.
"To maintain strong performance and reliability, individual users are limited to 5 million total created items in their Google Drive," a spokesperson from Google Workspace said. The spokesperson went on to say this change affects only a small number of users and recommended deleting some files.
For those with a plethora of files, suddenly being asked to remove millions of items is a major inconvenience, as noted in a report created on Google's issue tracker. One user in the UK said their business in animal health has been critically hit by this change. It's caused a major disruption, that UK user said, for the "tens of thousands of users in-practice and their work on a daily basis."
Others are wondering why, if there's a hard limit, Google didn't provide any guidance. The rollout of this change may not be going smoothly either, with some users saying that even at 1 million items, they can't create a new folder.
For many users and businesses, storing files online is often more convenient than local storage. The overallcloud storage market was valued at $78.6 billionin 2022, according to Markets and Markets.
People can upgrade their Google One account, the service that contains Gmail, Drive, YouTube and others, to have additional storage. This storage can go all the way up to 30TB. Google Onecompetes with Microsoft's OneDrive, Dropbox, Amazon Cloud Drive and Box. Of course, Google One integrates better with Google Workspace apps like Docs and Sheets.
Amazon is shutting down its drive service at the end of 2023, only keeping Amazon Photos around for photos and video. But there's no limit on the number of photos and videos stored, said an Amazon spokesperson. A Box representative also confirmed that Box's service doesn't have an item limit either.
Some Google One competitors also have file limits. OneDrive for Business has a limit of 50,000 items per folder. But it's uncertain if Microsoft has a hard cap on the number of items overall. Dropbox, on the other hand, says there's no limit.
A Microsoft representative didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
It seems that regardless of a person's Google One plan, whether it be 100GB or 20TB, the 5 million item limit applies. As a result, users with small file sizes are likely to hit the item limit before they hit the storage limit: Someone on a 2TB plan would have to exceed an average file size of 400KB to run out of storage before they hit the item limit. So, unless a person is storing large files like photos and videos on their drive, it's possible that some are paying for more space than can realistically be used.
Alternatively, other Reddit users pointed out that compressing files into a .zip folder ends up counting as one item.

On World Backup Day, Plethora Of Solutions To Protect Your Data, But Which One Is For You? – Swarajya
Every minute of the day, around the world, 1 in 10 computers suffers data damage by virus or ransomware. Also every minute, 113 mobile phones are stolen somewhere on the earth, arecent studyat 'Days of the Year' revealed.
Which is why, once a year, on 31 March, thedata storage industry evangelizes World Backup Day, tohighlight the importance of protecting data and keeping systems and computers secure.
It began in 2011, after an anguished user posted on the social media site Reddit, after losing everything on the hard drive of his personal computer and having no backup.
Says Sooraj Balakrishnan, Head of Marketing, Acer India: World Backup Day is a crucial reminder for all of us to take responsibility for protecting our digital lives. As most of our personal and professional information is stored digitally, it has become increasingly important to back up our data regularly and embrace a safer, more resilient digital future.
Adds Ramanujam Komanduri, Country Manager, Pure Storage India: Data loss is a silent killer that strikes individuals and businesses without warning. The financial and emotional toll of data loss is immeasurable, and it can leave a lasting impact on your life and your business.
The message is clear: Avoiding backup is a risk not worth taking, unless you like to live dangerously.
But like the visually challenged Six Wise Men of Hindustan in the 19thcentury poem by John Godfrey Saxe, who all touched an elephant and came to different conclusions about the nature of the object, the term backup means different things to different usersdepending whether they are lay users, small or large enterprises.
The meaning of backup for most of us is: a copy of all your important file for example, your family photos, home videos, documents and emails.
Instead of storing it all in one place (like your computer or smartphone), you keep a copy of everything somewhere safe.
Individual backup
Individual users of computers and phones have multiple options for backing up their data and while you may have to pay for the hardware, the backup service, unless your needs are very big is mostly free.
How often you backup your files is a matter of personal priorities once a day, if you are self-employed and doing important work, once a week or once a month for most of us.

Surprise: Google Drive has a hidden item limit regardless of how much storage space you have – Chrome Unboxed
A Reddit user who goes by the name of u/ra13 just discovered something Google has never alluded to Google Drive has a limit to how much you can store on it! Im not talking about file size and capacity, Im talking about the number of files you have period. The user stated that they started seeing the error Upload failed upon trying to add new files and even while creating empty folders as early as February 14th thats some valentines day gift, Google!
Other people have hit the same brick wall with their Drive files too, and have reached out to the tech giant to basically ask what the hell? The Redditor in question has 7 million files stored in their account (I know, a lot, right?), which is over the cap of 5 million items that Google has apparently always imposed. While over the limit, your stuff doesnt become inaccessible, but you are unable to upload anything new until you remove enough to get back within the green zone. For ra13, they will need to delete 2 million files in order to continue using their cloud storage normally, which is quite a daunting and annoying task. Its worth noting that this 5 million item issue applies across the board, even if you have extra storage left over.
A Google spokesperson released a statement in response to these issues (kudos: CNET) that many users have been facing, saying that to maintain strong performance and reliability, individual users are limited to 5 million total created items in their Google Drive. Since this statement was made, a new error message has been popping up for anyone who has exceeded the limit.
Fortunately, Google provides a tool to help users see whats taking up the most space in their Drive (as well as other services like Gmail). However, they will now need to be mindful of how many items they have, not just how large they are. Oddly enough, theres no official documentation on Google Support that explicitly mentions the item limit (except for Shared Drives which are capped out at 400,000 items), leading some to speculate that Google simply forgot to add it or assumed that no one would ever reach it.
Regardless, its quite a shocker for anyone whos stored their entire digital life on Drive, only to discover this unexpected limitation after the fact. As much as I prefer centralizing all of my data, it may be best to avoid storing all of our digital eggs in one basket going forward!

What Is Cloud Storage Service And Why Should You Use It? – IT News Africa
When it comes to owning and running your business, theres nothing harder than data storage and management. Heres everything you need to know about cloud storage services, what theyre good for, and why you should use them! Follow this guide to stay up to date on everything cloud-storage-related!
First things first, lets start with a clear understanding of what cloud storage is. Cloud storage is a cost-effective and accessible way to save data and files in an off-site location. You can access this location and data through the public internet or a dedicated private network that youve set up.
With cloud storage, the data you keep off-site becomes the responsibility of a third-party cloud provider. You can have public or private cloud storage and both have their strengths and weaknesses, depending on what youre looking for. Cloud storage provides businesses and individuals alike a great way to store infinite amounts of data and files, safely. Now that youre all caught up on what cloud storage is, its time to learn about the benefits of using it for your brand and person!
One of the main reasons why so many companies are turning to cloud storage is because its the easiest thing in the world to do! Typically, theres a lot of work and effort involved in setting up data storage systems and maintaining them. With cloud storage, you dont have to worry about the process taking hours and hours of endless labor to succeed. Cloud storage is accessible and can be set up and in use within a couple of days or hours. Once youre set up, you can begin reaping the rewards of cloud storage in terms of efficiency and ease of use in no time!
As a business, you accumulate a lot of data in a short period of time, and all this data needs to be stored and managed. Whether youre a big or small company, tackling this job by yourself can be tough. Cloud storage providers do all the heavy lifting of maintaining and protecting your data so you dont have to worry. Your provider will take care of everything from procuring storage to installation to maintenance. Off-site data management is easy with the right cloud storage provider, and you can rest easy and use your time on more pressing matters.
As your business grows, you will continue to amass more data and need more hands on deck to manage it. On-site data storage and management can be tricky to scale, as you need to think about a lot of data in a lot of separate, physical places. The great thing about cloud storage systems is that theyre very scalable and can easily adapt to any company size. With cloud storage, you can scale up or scale down as quickly or as you need to without breaking a sweat. This makes it perfect for brands on the brink of hypergrowth and for those looking to take things slow.
Its no secret that data storage and management can make or break your business. If anything goes wrong with your data storage, you could lose precious time, energy, and resources to fix the issue. This can cost you your profit, clients, and reputation as a business if youre not careful. Cloud storage services are not only easier to use, but they are also more secure and more efficient. With cloud storage services, you can access your data, troubleshoot, and resolve issues in a fraction of the time. You can keep things running smoothly at work and support business continuity with cloud storage services.
Finally, not only is cloud storage a more efficient investment than classic storage, but it also pays for itself! When you start up your business, it can be hard to know how much of everything youll need, and to budget for things like data storage. This can lead you to make expensive oversights and cost your company millions. Cloud storage systems are adaptable and cost-effective as you pay for exactly how much you need, no more, no less. Having efficient and secure data storage and management will also save you plenty of money down the line as a brand.
