Discover the latest innovations in edtech enabled by cloud ecosystems at AWS-CloudThat Growth Gurus – YourStory

The edtech market is maturing to a level where we are looking at student experiences now. Measurement of learning outcomes, quality of content, AR/VR content, and supplemental learning are going to drive the future of edtech, noted PP Sunil Acharya, South Asia Lead: Education, Space & NPO, AWS while delivering a keynote address at Growth Gurus.

This was an offline meet-and-greet event by Amazon Web Services (AWS) and CloudThat in partnership with YourStory. The event brought together edupreneurs and stakeholders in the edtech sector to exchange ideas, learn about latest technology innovations, and be part of a community of edtech founders.

Digitisation has enabled access to education and ensured that the digital divide is minimised in the country. Today, students in leading universities or Tier 1 cities have access to the same knowledge and faculty as that of their counterparts in the remotest corners. Moreover, the Indian governments initiatives Swayam (Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds), Diksha and its e-pathshala initiative have further made education accessible to anyone anywhere.

The future of edtech lies in phygital, believes Abhishek Mishra, Chief of Strategy at PhysicsWallah, which boasts of 1.27 lakh live learners in one class. A multitude of teams worked together to achieve this feat. We made sure every element of our infrastructure was scaled, tested, and ready before the D-day to have smooth sailing operations. We invested heavily in improving our tech stack to serve millions of requests. We use Amazon Web Services (AWS) in our ecosystem and are committed to serving users with improved performance, he said.

So far, there has been a lot of content delivery and content selling in edtech. Now its more about a perfect student-content fit, like a relevant matchmaking. The real challenge is not just putting out content but also finding ways to engage with children as edtech products are now competing with classrooms.

Edtech can truly revolutionise learning in India. Bhavesh Goswami, Founder and CEO, CloudThat cites a case in point here. Picture this - a traditional classroom, filled with 50-60 students is taught the same lesson together. While somebody becomes a topper, a few become bottom rankers. But if you score 35 percent marks, you're barely passing but still promoted to the next class despite limited knowledge about a topic. However, edtech has the ability to provide personal attention to each and every student, along with helping them get a solid foundation, he shared.

Edtech is not a plateau. I think we're going to continue to grow for the next many decades. The widespread use of digital technology has completely reshaped the teaching-learning landscape. Multiple modalities like video on demand, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Google Lens, etc. would enable students to experience classroom learning while being at home. And personalised learning is going to be a very big component of that, said Bhavesh.

When we look at companies and businesses using AWS, we often hear and in fact see cost savings as a primary driver for the decision to use cloud. But organisations that use AWS realise value above and beyond just TCO reduction, pointed out Irshad Chohan, Senior Solutions Architect at AWS in a session on Cloud Economics: Understand & Optimize the Value of AWS Cloud.

Organisations also realise value in staff productivity which includes improvements to staff efficiency, operational resilience which refers to improvements in quality of service, and SLAs, and business agility which includes increased innovation, and reduction in go to market time for new features and products, he explained.

Irshad suggested a framework for organisations to not only create visibility and optimise cloud spend, but also make cloud spend more predictable for the business and stakeholders, and build a long-term, self-sustaining cost aware culture supporting all waypoints in the cloud journey.

Edtech is a great place for the teacher ecosystem to upskill, according to Pallavi Venkateshan, Senior Program Manager Edstart, AISPL. Exemplary teachers who are not yet discovered should get onboarded on edtech platforms and find their next customer base, she said.

Nanda Kishore P, VP, Consulting Sales, CloudThat and Ajay Nair, Partner Manager - South India, AWS, delivered the closing remarks. They highlighted how you can leverage cloud computing, you can think about moving all of your IT to the cloud, establish a hybrid environment with some infrastructure on premise and other applications in the cloud, or consider moving over workload by workloadand then over time, more and more of those pieces move into the cloud.

An increasing number of innovators are trying to leverage the massive business opportunities in edtech that pan across online, hybrid, and offline offerings. And Growth Gurus has been successful in bringing together edupreneurs to nurture and showcase the potential of cloud in the sector, and become part of the larger community to celebrate the next chapter of edtech.

New Bull Market or Recession? 3 Tech Stocks That Will Thrive Either Way – The Motley Fool

As of this writing, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite indexes are down a respective 10% and 17% so far in 2022. The global economy is slowing down, and some economists (and very loud market pundits) still think a recession is possible this year or next. And yet, stocks have rallied sharply off of their lows in mid-June.

Data by YCharts.

Has a new bull market begun, or will recession send stocks lower? It's difficult to say. Either way, though, focusing on quality businesses that can grow despite macroeconomic issues is the way to go if you're a long-term investor. Three Fool.com contributors think Alphabet (GOOGL -2.53%) (GOOG -2.58%), LiveRamp Holdings (RAMP -2.98%), and Marvell Technology Group (MRVL -4.16%) will thrive no matter what happens next. Here's why.

Billy Duberstein (Alphabet): Unsure of the way the economy's going to go? Then it's time to invest in companies with both offensive and defensive qualities. And I can't think of a better example than Alphabet, the parent company of Google.

On defense, Alphabet has three key attributes. First, Alphabet's core search business is an effective monopoly on global search, with more than 91% market share as of last month.

Not only does Alphabet have a near-monopoly on search, but search itself is a pretty defensive business, given that it doesn't require as much third-party data to effectively target ads. That's in contrast to social media platforms, which have been hurt by last year's IDFA privacy regulations that have limited their targeting capabilities. In a difficult advertising environment, Google search still grew 13.5% year over year last quarter, much better than the social media competitors, which all struggled. When prospective customers enter their search terms, they often have strong intentions of buying a product. For that reason, search ads are probably one of the last things advertisers would cut in an ad spending pullback.

Another defensive quality is Alphabet's balance sheet, which has $125 billion in cash as of the end of the second quarter, with only $14.7 billion in long-term debt. Alphabet has been ramping up its buybacks in recent years, so if its stock price falls lower or stays at these lower levels, management can retire that much more stock without sacrificing growth opportunities. The company has a $70 billion buyback program currently underway, which could retire 4.5% of Alphabet's stock at today's market cap.

Third, Alphabet is a rising player in cloud computing. A late starter with the third-highest market share, Alphabet's Google Cloud Platform has still been growing nicely, up 35.6% last quarter to a $19 billion run rate. Since corporate customers generally save money and gain flexibility when they switch to the cloud, the cloud computing industry should remain relatively resilient on the whole, even if the economy goes into a downturn.

On the offensive side, if the economy improves, ad budgets will go up. That will not only benefit search advertising, but also Google's ad networks and YouTube, which has been growing viewership but has seen its growth take a hit amid the recent ad slowdown. Alphabet also has significant investments in artificial intelligence (AI) and new-age moonshot "other bets" projects that could receive more adoption if economic conditions improve. These include ventures in health data, fiber broadband, and self-driving car company Waymo, among others.

Given the softer macroeconomic backdrop, CEO Sundar Pichai recently sent a companywide email saying, "We need to be more entrepreneurial, working with greater urgency, sharper focus, and more hunger than we've shown on sunnier days."

So even though Alphabet remains highly profitable and has been weathering the current environment much better than others, Pichai is still pushing employees to do more with less. That should make Alphabet a defensive play that could surprise to the upside.

Anders Bylund (LiveRamp): Data management and analytics expert LiveRamp Holdingsoffers a rare combination of robust growth and bargain-bin stock prices.

The company has close ties to the digital advertising market, where other businesses rely on its privacy-enhanced data collection and analysis tools to build and support their online marketing campaigns. LiveRamp's closest rivals tend to trade at sky-high valuations, often north of 20 times trailing sales. But this stock has been thrown out with the market's bathwater, changing hands at just 2.7 times sales today.

At the same time, LiveRamp has more than doubled its sales in four years. Data-driven advertising is a hot topic and this company is a veteran in that field. As a result, the company crushed Wall Street's estimates across the board in the recently reported first quarter of fiscal year 2023. Yet the stock keeps setting new multiyear lows, diving to prices not seen since 2018.

LiveRamp's high-margin Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform generates solid cash profits. The company reported free cash flows of $56 million over the last four quarters, based on $552 million in top-line revenue. LiveRamp's balance sheet holds $508 million of cash equivalents and zero long-term debt. Furthermore, LiveRamp's privacy-respecting data analytics platform is not easily replaced, which makes its customers highly loyal.

In short, LiveRamp's stock deserves the same double-digit price-to-sales ratios as SaaS giants Snowflakeand The Trade Desk, both of which also happen to be close LiveRamp partners. Dollar-based net retention ratios clocked in at 113% in the first quarter, for example.

This stock is poised for a tremendous rebound. If there's another recession in the cards, it would only delay LiveRamp's return to a reasonable valuation. That looks like a lucrative journey if you're buying the stock at these bargain-bin prices.

Nicholas Rossolillo (Marvell Technology Group): Everyone knows top semiconductor names like Nvidiaand Advanced Micro Devices are making serious hay right now from a fast-evolving data center industry. But there are other chip companies getting massive lift from data center construction, AI, and related technology movements. If you haven't heard of it yet, let me introduce you to Marvell Technology Group.

Marvell has been around since the mid-1990s, designing chips for networking infrastructure. Its data processing units (DPUs) are at the heart of its semiconductor portfolio. These DPUs are specialized circuits responsible for moving and processing massive amounts of data within a data center. Nvidia has called the DPU the "third pillar of the computing world" along with central processing units (CPUs) and graphics processing units (GPUs).

Over the years, Marvell has steadily acquired smaller peers to expand into adjacent networking hardware like data center switches, data storage controllers, and ethernet products. As a result, Marvell is now a leader in networking hardware for applications from AI to cybersecurity to automotive computing. In fact, even though consumer electronics spending is poised for a cyclical decline in the second half of 2022, data centers and adjacent markets like 5G network infrastructure are still flying high. Most of Marvell's revenue is derived from these sources, not consumer products, so it is likely to remain in growth mode.

For reference, Marvell reported sales of $1.45 billion in the first quarter of fiscal 2023, ended April 30, and forecast a very healthy sequential increase in sales for Q2 ($1.515 billion at the midpoint of guidance). Management will report on Q2 on Aug. 25. Ahead of the quarterly report, Marvell stock trades for 41 times enterprise value to earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA). It's a premium price tag, but rapidly improving as Marvell digests the effects of a couple of acquisitions in 2021. I'm a buyer right now.

Work Mind and Muscle with this Partner Challenge by the Man Who Trained Superman – Men’s Health

Mark Twight, the original mind behind Gym Jones is infamous worldwide for transforming not just the bodies; but the minds of countless Hollywood icons including Superman, Aquaman and The Spartans of 300, to name a few.

As a former elite mountain climber, and trainer to military personnel and Special Forces, Twight specialises in creating workout environments that go far beyond building buff bodies; forcing trainees to confront their own minds and resist the temptation to chase comfort and quit.

To my mind, no workout epitomises this ethos quite like Tailpipe. This partner workout is deceptively simple, but incredibly sinister.

Youll hop on a rowing machine and pull 250m as fast as possible, before switching with your partner who will do the same. Alternate back and forth three times until youve clocked up a total of 1500m.

Easy, right?

Well this ones less about what you do on the rower, and more about what you do off of it; while your partner rows, youll rest holding two 24kg kettlebells in a front-rack position. This stress position forces you to focus on your breathing; getting it under control, bringing your heart rate down as quickly as possible and avoiding panic. The name Tail Pipe comes from the fact youll feel like youre sucking down exhaust fumes, almost from the get go.

Think youve got what it takes? Grab a partner and throw down the gauntlet. No takers? Work on a 1:1 work-to-hold ratio, resting in the Tail Pipe position for as long as your previous 250m took, and rowing for a three round total of 750m.

Push hard away from the flywheel with your legs (A). Keep your arms straight until your legs are extended, then pull the handle into your chest (B). Reverse the movement. Keep your pace up, remember your partner is suffering, so the easier you can make it for them, the quicker their row will be. Keep that in mind.

Clean a pair of kettlebells into the front rack position, sitting high on your chest, just below your chin. Keep your elbows down and your knuckles close together, throughout (A). Focus on breathing deep into your belly and avoid thinking about how much pain youre in, for as long as you can. If you drop the bells, pick them back up as quickly as possible and stand firm.

Farm Family of the Year has deep Soldotna roots – KBBI

Martha Merrys home on Pickle Hill is a bonafide farmhouse. The dozens of garlic plants drying on the floor of the living room during a rainy spell are a dead giveaway.

Its a little late in the season for garlic. Merry, stepping over a row of scapes, said shes not sure shes going to bring this garlic to the Lancashire Farm stand at the farmers market, like she usually does.

So Im just going to mince those and use them for the family, she said.

Which we do love it when the garlic scapes come up, said daughter Amy Seitz.

Merry, Seitz and Jane Conway run Lancashire Farm this year's Alaska Farm Family of the Year. It's an honor from the state to an Alaska family that epitomizes a commitment to local agriculture.

Lancashire Farm has been committed to that goal for longer than most. Larry and Rusty Lancashire arrived in Alaska in 1948, by way of Ohio.

They were some of the first homesteaders in Soldotna, and one of the few homesteading families that farmed commercially and stuck with it.

Merry not even five years old in 1948 said her dads interest in farming was rooted in his time in World War II. When he was serving as a pilot, his plane was shot down and he spent over a year in a prisoner-of-war camp.

While he was there, the Red Cross would send some books, she said. Some were about farming, and so he looked at some of those.

After he got out, he tried out careers in insurance sales and then in crop dusting. But Merry said neither stuck.

So then when crop dusting didnt pan out and insurance didnt pan out, he decided to come north, she said. It took him quite a while to drive a half-ton Jeep pulling four tons on a trailer up the AlCan. Hed come to a hill and wouldnt be able to go up, so hed put shocks behind the wheels and he had a rope that hed put out in front. And then hed wait for a trucker to come by, and the trucker would pull him up and hed be good to go until the next hill.

When the Lancashires finally arrived in Alaska, they set up shop on the property the farm sits on today on Pickle Hill, in Soldotna.

I think dad always had in mind having a commercial farm, Merry said. So first Everybody needs to have eggs. So he raised chickens.

But the neighbors werent so warm to the idea, at first.

Merry said the people in nearby Kenai already an established town then were so used to eating dried eggs that they didnt take much to their fresh ones.

And so, dad tried dairy cattle, she said. After all, every family needs milk. But likewise, the people in Kenai were so used to canned milk that they didnt like fresh, 33% Guernsey gold.

Finally, the family got into potatoes. Theyd sell them on contract up in Anchorage.

Eventually, Larry Lancashire got out of the farm business altogether. He bought Larrys Club in Soldotna and became a commercial fisherman.

But farming stayed in the family. Merrys sister, Abby Ala, runs Ridgeway Farms down the street.

Seitz grew up spending summers at the homestead and doing 4-H with Ala's kids.

Ive always been interested in the farm. I always knew this is where I wanted to be, she said.

Today, the farm does most of its sales directly from the property and at the Soldotna Saturday Farmers Market. They also sell eggs to Odies, plus yarn spun from their sheeps wool at shops around the peninsula.

Theyre working on expanding how much they can produce, bringing in more sheep for meat and fiber both and expanding their production on plants like the garlic.

We need more layers, we need to do more meat chickens," Seitz said. "We need to sort out our sheep and have more production there."

And the farm has been adding new plants into its rotation, too like yod fah, a brassica from Asia; and celtuce, a cultivar known for its thick stems.

Seitz said people are generally excited to try new things when they stop by their stand at the market though it takes some getting used to, and some education.

We have to educate people on what these new items are and then keep planting them, Seitz said. We always print off a fact sheet about the plant, and a recipe example. Theres a lot of engagement.

Seitz is also the head of the Alaska Farm Bureau.

She said theres a lot of enthusiasm today about local food from consumers, driven in part by a recognition that Alaskas really cut off from the rest of the world.

Theres definitely a lot more interest in buying local, she said.

Theres interest from budding producers, too.

Several years ago, when high tunnels came on the scene, that was a big benefit, Seitz said. Its given more opportunity to grow longer.

Merry also said people recognize that local produce just tastes better. Its a far cry from those early days in Kenai.

I think theres a lot of interest in homesteading, in growing gardens and learning how, Merry said. And I think that is really good. So I think its important that we as farmers reach and help individuals learn to garden on their own area.

Merry and Seitz are heading to the state fair in Palmer this weekend. Theyll be presented with the Farm Family Of the Year award on Aug. 25.

Previous honorees from the Kenai Peninsula include Alaska Shellfish Farms in Halibut Cove (2020), Alaska Berries in Soldotna (2018) and Diamond M Ranch in Kenai (2012).

Marie Lueders collections explore how clothing affects the mind

I love exploring how a garment affects us energetically, says Hamburg-born designer and Royal College of Art graduate Marie Lueder of her clothing, which she hopes will allowthe wearer to navigate their interior selves

Marie Lueder is a designer with an agenda. I like to make fashion that is like a deep conversation; then I simplify the garment so it speaks for itself, because not everyone has the time to listen to me, she says from her studio in Londons Shoreditch.

The Hamburg native moved to London to pursue a masters in menswear at the Royal College of Art, honing a practice that encompasses performance art, research into sustainability, and ultimately, the creation of garments that allow the wearer to navigate both their interior selves and external realities at eponymous label Lueder.

I think with my background as a tailor. I am really guided by construction, she says; in sartorial terms, this has resulted in explorations of archetypal garments which upend expectations, while incorporating traditional techniques from a team of tailors in Birmingham.

This feeling of utilitarian luxury is epitomised by her Civilian Hoodie, which comes complete with a degrad spiral on its front a motif she sees as symbolic of her label. Its a universal garment that everyone likes to wear, and it has this protection element of the hood as well. The spiral is about chaos and confusion. We are all spiralling and if people stand in the spiral shape, they would feel close to one another rather than isolated.

Jacket, 1,150; shirt, 355; jeans, 650, all by Lueder

In her shows and presentations, Lueder uses such visual motifs to prompt individuals to incorporate her garments in their wardrobes and lives, hoping to form a feeling of community through her work. She references an annual festival in Hamburg, which has roots in mediaeval folklore. Our carnival is called Fasching. The idea was that the communal gathering is really necessary to relieve people and make them feel human, and you can go crazy as well, she says. To create a space for people to explore and share her work, Lueder engages external collaborators, each one diligently acknowledged on the presentation of new collections.

Co-creation also underpins her response to sustainability. Lueder recently participated in the Sustainable Leadership Programme at the University of Cambridge, which prompted her to invite clients to send in their old suits to be repurposed. Fashion does this crazy thing of telling us we need newness, [but now] there is also the baggage of oh, I am human, I am creating waste 24/7 and people feel so unable to deal with the problem. So, rather than preaching from her digital pulpit, Lueder is choosing to develop channels of allyship that still result in beautiful clothing. What is the next suit and what does it have to do? Lueder asks herself.

Lueders ascent has been rapid; she has enjoyed the professional triptych of critical acclaim, celebrity patronage one side project involved working with Kanye West on merchandise for his first Donda listening event and an impressive list of stockists since launching in 2019. But she is candid about the challenges facing an emerging brand. Even though it might look like that right now, there are side jobs I do, so I still feel like I am struggling. And I am constantly thinking, How can I sustain this? How can I plan?

Even so, Lueder forges forward with a desire to create clothing that allows the wearer to feel their best self, with each garment a conduit for mental wellbeing. I love exploring how a garment affects us energetically.

360 Total Security Essential – Free download and software reviews …

360 Internet Security 2013 is anti-virus and anti-malware protection software for Windows PCs. The installer is a light 17MB, and though the overall installation time and duration was relatively fast, it's update process took longer than we had expected. Prior to installation, 360 will automatically prompt you to agree to their license and usage terms, something that's normally an opt-out process. And though it's more or less required to move on, those who are more keen on privacy details or interested in the terms of agreement should keep this in mind before they install the software. Still, the opt-out option might appear a bit suspicious, especially for users who are simply trying out the software.

The setup process will then notify you of any potentially conflicting AV programs you have already installed and give you the option of uninstalling them. Again, layering multiple AV programs is generally bad practice, but if used in a corporate environment with preinstalled security software, you might have to take into consideration that 360 IS may not function properly with any neighboring security suites.

360 also gives you the option of installing a Chrome extension, but in an unconventional accepting or cancelling call to action. For the purpose of this review, we chose to opt out of the toolbar and focus on the core 360 IS experience.

Modern AV programs have been following suit after Windows 8's design makeover by incorporating bright, flat UI elements into their programs. 360 is no exception: the interface, menus, and buttons are all bright, clean, and simulates Windows 8's switch-toggle option items.

The upper-right area sports the standard closing and minimizing buttons, as well as a drop-down menu that lives alongside them. In the second row, a giant check mark and a small arrow tab in the center both reveal a pull-down menu with added filtering options, as well as some stats on the number of blocked items. On the plus side, these menu options did seem a bit odd at first, but at least they weren't invasive.

Overall, 360 IS's general interface remained easy to use but also lacks a bit of direction in some areas. There is a decent number of useful tools under the hood, but not a whole lot of obvious signs of the existence of these monitoring features, at least at first glance. It's both good and bad in that for the casual user, the malware scanner is front and center while most other complex tools, options, and features stay out of the way. And though it does reduce the prospect of overwhelming any users with ambiguous tools, those who are more into in-depth monitoring will have to do a bit of minor digging; but overall, things aren't too hard to find despite the minimal guidance.

360 Internet Security does come with a couple of competitive features for not just local and Web-based protection, but also a couple of privacy protection measures like anti-keylogging and unauthorized Webcam hijacking, which isn't common among other security suites. There are some recognizable attributes that allude to some Bitdefender throwback in 360's features, like real-time file protection; and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the real-time scans from the cloud are borrowed from Bitdefender's definitions.

Another interesting tidbit is a built-in monitoring tool that displays a daily performance score of 360 Internet Security's malware and virus detection engines. Though it's more an assessment of assurance rather than a functional tool, 360 Internet Security at least maintains itself as a formidable cloud security service.

Interestingly enough, because 360 IS is built with the Bitdefender SDK, our benchmark scores proved to be relatively similar to when we reviewed Bitdefender: iTunes track encoding took exactly 123 seconds. 360 IS completed the heavy processing load in 349 seconds in our media multitasking benchmark, only five seconds more than Bitdefender AV Free 2013.

360 IS does deserve some credit for presenting harmful results in ways that try not to scare users. Once a potential threat is detected, 360 IS will display some basic info. to identify the malicious file, a brief description of how the malware behaves, where it's located in the system, and whether the malware was detected via the cloud engine or from a local scanner. Though your mileage may vary, a "full scan" at highest speed took about 33 minutes to complete on our test machine. 360 IS will produce a text log after every complete scan with a list of results, similar to other scanners like Malwarebytes.

360 IS performed well as a very capable scanner with a crisp and mostly intuitive interface, and thankfully lacked the many scareware tactics found in other smaller, alternative lightweight virus scanners. Overall, 360 IS's scanner had minimal impact on system performance, and still ranked relatively high on third-party charts. If you're in the market for an antivirus program, then 360 Internet Security's well-rounded protection and friendly useability will make a promising addition to your Windows system.

Protect yourself online with tips from Amazon and the National Cybersecurity Alliance – About Amazon

You can protect yourself onlinethats the message Amazon and the National Cybersecurity Alliance want to share with millions of consumers through a newly launched cybersecurity awareness campaign. The public service announcement (PSA) campaign, Protect & Connect, stars Prime Video actor Michael B. Jordan and actress-producer Tessa Thompson as internet bodyguards.

As phishing scams and other online cyberattacks become increasingly common, consumers can grow apathetic. In fact, research shows that even as the number of cyberattacks increased, concern around internet security fell between 2019 and 2020. But consumers can take simple steps to help protect themselves and their information onlineno security expertise required.

Empowering people with the knowledge and tools to operate safely online can help them protect their own personal information while combatting cyber threats of all kinds, said Steve Schmidt, Amazons chief security officer. Our goal is to give people simple, concrete steps to take, like enabling multi-factor authentication, that have meaningful security impact despite the complex security threats that exist.

Amazon leveraged the creative power of the Prime Video team to conceptualize the PSA and connect with top talent. They brought the message of personal agency to life with the help of Jordan and Thompson.

The importance of protecting yourself online cant be overstated. With this PSA, we wanted to create a memorable, informative, and actionable piece of content that will inspire our communities to consider their online safety more carefully, said Sarah Hamilton, head of Global Brand Creative and Strategy at Prime Video. Audiences will see celebrated action heroes Michael B. Jordan and Tessa Thompson naturally slip into the role of internet bodyguards, sharing simple ways everyone can be safer online.

In addition to the PSA, the campaign includes a microsite for consumers, protectconnect.com. It includes additional videos for visitors to learn more about multi-factor authentication (MFA) and how to identify and avoid phishing attempts. The site also has interactive content to test consumers knowledge on best practices for keeping safe online.

The Amazon Security team contributed their expertise on the most effective ways for consumers to protect their information online, and Amazons collaboration with the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA) helped ensure that the campaign messages were aligned with best practices for cybersecurity education. The NCA is a nonprofit on a mission to create a more secure, interconnected world through education and awareness efforts that help individuals and organization stay safe online.

Moving the needle on cybersecurity awareness requires a collective approach. Businesses, nonprofits, and governments all have a role to play in helping to up-level preparedness for cyber threats, said Lisa Plaggemier, NCAs executive director. Its particularly exciting for a company like Amazon to get involved in this effort, given the companys exceptional reach and deep understanding of consumer audiences. Were proud to be a part of this campaign and to share it with our constituents as well.

The PSA campaign is a follow-up to the commitments that Andy Jassy made at last years White House Cyber Summit to help improve the nations cybersecurity by offering Cybersecurity Awareness Training free to individuals and businesses around the world and providing free MFA security keys to eligible Amazon Web Services customers.

Securing Africa’s cyberspace will be coordinated from Togo – Quartz

A new cybersecurity center in Togo is poised to add into efforts by individual African countries to secure the continents cyberspace.

In November 2021, Kaspersky reported that Nigeria, South Africa, and Kenya recorded a combined total of 81 million cyber attacks in three months, signaling how cybercrime is rising in tandem with internet penetration. In the second quarter of this year, phishing scams rose by 438% and 174% in Kenya and Nigeria respectively, from the previous quarter.

Based in the capital city Lom, and set up as a partnership between the government and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (Uneca), the African Centre for Coordination and Research in Cybersecurity will monitor, detect, and share cybersecurity intelligence with African governments, policy makers, law enforcement, and security agencies. Cybercrime is estimated to cost Africa $4 billion a year.

The center will also lead internet security research in the continent, in a time when hacking groups are deploying sophisticated deep learning software to penetrate African government websites, banks, hospitals, power companies, and telcos. In July, Liquid Cyber Security, the internet security arm of cloud firm Liquid Intelligence Technologies, launched a cybersecurity fusion center in South Africa.

Togos digital economy and transformation minister Cina Lawson said the collaborations mission is to make cybersecurity a top priority for African nations. We aim to become a significant digital hub in Africa. Our partnership model with the private sector is an innovative approach that we want to showcase to inspire other countries for safer cyberspace on the continent, he added.

Last March, African countries subscribed to the Lom Declaration (pdf) which is implementing a regulatory framework to make cybersecurity a business enabler.

It is important to promote coordinated cybersecurity approaches in Africa, United Nations under-secretary general and Uneca executive secretary, Vera Songwe, said.

Togo already has a National Cybersecurity Agency (ANCy) and a Personal Data Protection Authority (IPDCP), making itself a leader in Africas cyberspace security. It is one of a few nations to have ratified the African Union Convention on Cybersecurity and Personal Data Protection of 2014.

Once cyber attackers obtain access to corporate web-based and cloudresources using cookies, they use them for further exploitation such as business email compromise, social engineering to gain additional system access, and even modification of data or source code repositories. There have also been hacking on social media platforms targeting money in credit cards.

Over the past year, weve seen attackers increasingly turn to cookie theft to work around the growing adoption of multi-factor authentication. Attackers are turning to new and improved versions of information stealing malware like Raccoon Stealer to simplify the process of obtaining authentication cookies, also known as access tokens, Sean Gallagher, lead threat researcher at Sophos, a UK cybersecurity firm, tells Quartz.

In March 2021, the African Development Bank granted $2 million to the African Cybersecurity Resource Center (ACRC) for Financial Inclusion to tackle cybercrime and strengthen the resilience of digital financial ecosystems.
