The Revolution of Software Defined Networks – Video

The Revolution of Software Defined Networks
On July 23, 2012, VMware bought Nicira for $1.26B validating this revolution in Networking.Next week, Oracle acquired Xsigo. Just recently Cisco acquired vCider. Upstarts claim they will commoditize the expensive networking gear sold by the incumbents, with standards like Software Defined Networking (SDN), and OpenFlow (OF). Already, Google and Facebook deploy their own network hardware and software - and not the proprietary offerings of incumbent networking players. Many entrepreneurs are betting on SDN and OpenFlow. VLAB engages a robust discussion on SDN. Are we ready for chasm crossing? Is Cloud Computing driving SDN? Who else is using SDN and why? Is SDN a tectonic technology shift, or just a niche? Will incumbents co-opt SDN with closed proprietary implementations? Are we to have a win-win between users and vendors? Where are the opportunities? Moderator: Matt Palmer, Partner at Wiretap Ventures, Partner and co-curator at SDN Central Panelists: Michael Beesley, Chief Technology Officer, Platform Systems Division at Juniper Networks Kelly Herrell, Chief Executive Officer at Vyatta Awais Nemat, Chief Executive Officer at PLUMgrid Jake Flomenberg, Partner at Accel PartnersFrom:vlabvideosViews:1 0ratingsTime:01:25:06More inScience Technology

FiberLineCommunications.com Cloud Computing Advantages Benefits - Free up your IT staff to contribute directly to the bottom line of your business Hello, I #39;m Rachael Ruble with FiberLine Communications. Thank you for joining us for the latest in our series on the advantages of cloud computing. This week we will discuss how cloud computing frees up your IT staff for projects that directly increase the profits of your company. If your company is like most businesses, your IT staff invest the vast majority of their time maintaining the IT infrastructure of your company. Because IT personnel are a limited resource, tactical IT duties often prevent IT personnel from proactively contributing to more important projects that will directly contribute to the bottom line of your business. With cloud computing, your IT department is no longer required to spend all of their time building and maintaining an inflexible and inefficient IT infrastructure. Cloud computing enables the IT staff of your company to instantly add IT resources for the emergent needs of your company, or so that your company can enjoy the flexibility needed to try new projects that meet the exact needs of your customers in a timely manner, or try projects that could pay off big for your company in the future. Cloud computing also allows your company to quickly eliminate applications that are obsolete and no longer contributing to the profits of your business. Thank you for joining us for this discussion.
