Costa Rica and the IDB will promote responsible use of artificial intelligence – Market Research Telecast

San Jos, Sep 29 (EFE) .- The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and Costa Rica reported this Wednesday that they will promote an initiative to promote the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence.

The Costa Rican president, Carlos Alvarado, in an official virtual act presented the fAIr LAC Costa Rica, a project that aims to promote, educate and regulate the development of artificial intelligence.

Undoubtedly, the way in which this initiative is conceived will not only allow the promotion of small and medium-sized companies in the technology sector, but will also allow the promotion of direct foreign investment and, consequently, promote quality employment in the country for our young people. Alvarado stressed.

This launch marks the fourth fAIr LAC center in Latin America and the Caribbean, which already has offices in Mexico, Colombia and Uruguay. According to the authorities, the proposal will make it possible to position Costa Rica as a pioneer in the region in an issue that is increasingly gaining ground.

The initiative seeks, through experimentation with case studies, to promote the generation of knowledge of the ethical risks of using artificial intelligence in social services and the way to mitigate them and, likewise, to lead a dialogue from diversity, inclusion and focused on citizenship.

All these developments must be carried out in a responsible way using this knowledge for socioeconomic development, without losing sight of ethics in its application and the search for the greatest good for all people, said the Minister of Science, Innovation, Technology and Telecommunications, Paola Vega.

The FAIr LAC will have three lines of action: a network of experts who will transmit their knowledge and help to sensitize the population about the opportunities and importance of its responsible use, with an educational approach.

In addition to solutions that will consist of the development of tools that mitigate ethical risks and improve the quality of technology in the country and the communication part that will be focused on positioning the conversation on artificial intelligence in the country, and its possible uses.

Latin America and the Caribbean will not be able to recover from this crisis without making use of new technologies, that is why digital transformation is a fundamental pillar of our vision () We know that adopting these technologies poses challenges and, therefore, we want to support to governments, companies and enterprises so that they can take advantage of the benefits of artificial intelligence, said IDB President Mauricio Claver-Carone.
